My boyfriend is from South Carolina - His mom got me a cookbook and one morning I figured I'd whip up a pot of soup so that he could take it for lunch. (yes, I'm very energetic in the morning!)...

Anyway, I'm flipping through these recipes.  I go into the bathroom, where he is in the shower & I say, "John, what's a cooter?"

He gets very quiet and says.... "uh.... use it in a sentence"

I said, "There's a recipe here for Cooter Soup"

He starts laughing and told me it was a turtle!!!!!!!!  Of course, I'd never heard the word used in any way whatsoever.  Between hysterical laughing, he also told me the "other" meaning for cooter.  To this day everyone gets a big laugh over it.

Oh, and his mother started sending me turtles!!!  (not real!)... I have turtles on my window sills, out in the garden, hanging off of plant pots....

I hope you remember that there are children who read and learn from the boards...I was appalled when my child asked me a couple questions stemming from this message.....It took me many months to be comfortable enough to allow her to be a part of these, but felt comfortable after the christian influence I saw here because she needed it for her health.  I am very disapppointed to say the least.  God has entrusted me with 7 wonderful children who strive to live strong for the Lord.  Now one of them thinks this is a bad site.

Oh Angela - I am so sorry!  I would never, ever want to put anyone in an uncomfortable position.  I apologize profusely and will go remove my post.  I realize it won't "undo" this.  I am so very sorry - I didn't realize that it was inappropriate.  I hope you will forgive me.

Ang,You are so right and I apologize for having taken part and even laughed at the commentary posted on this board. Trust me my sister no offense was meant or malice intended as we few of us took liberty with a "word or two". It is easy for us to forget that when a topic thread turns funny. Please forgive us all in your Christian heart...now it is your job to help your child understand that the site is not bad not the folks init and we have good hearts but only we made a bad judgement and we are all fallible. This is why the good lord sent his son. To pay for our sins and cleanse us. This is why he will return one day too. They way I look at it as I grew up without the internet and i lived and i guard my kids like a Lion and do not permit them at all to use my computer. It is too easy for them to fall prey and wander to places they hear about in school. They are not permitted to participate in any board or chat group either. My wife did or does not feel he same and her computer was fried by virus and spyware. we have not replaced it either. The internet is too dangerous and adults are adults...adult speak and adult thinking and humor is whether it is innuendo or just poking fun can be misinterpreted by anyone and when kids do not understand it only makes it worse. This ii why i do not let my kids on the internet. Too much for their young minds to process that they still do not understand. The time is not right.

Niki:

About 580 hits ago on this subject, you mentioned freezing your fruit. I bought a bag of mixed frozed fruit at Smart and Final last night and filled my blender with it this morning with an unfrozen banana, some cinnamon and 1 1/4 cups of OJ, no ice cubes. The resulting smoothie had the consistency of a McDonald's milkshake.

Now on a yummy scale it was about an 8 however, a thick smoothie like that can shift suddenly as you are taking a sip shift and then you're wearing it.

So do I add more OJ, ice cubes...?

Not Niki, but how about just putting a straw in it and keep stirring while you're drinking so you don't get that real heavy layer on top and the rest down your shirt? LOL.... I like my smoothies chunky so I don't even blend them for all that long. I like to "chew" them and make them last longer! :) nyKath

I have to admit I really enjoyed it that way but a spill is imminent. I also make a very big smoothie, it completely fills the blender. Delia gets about 16oz of it and I get the rest (about a quart) so I would have to find a pretty long straw, I know they have them because I would get one whenever I ordered a super sized milkshake.

The last few weeks I’ve been enjoying reading this posts, and laughing everyone’s smoothie mishaps. Well, I guess I should have listened to momma’s advice of not laugh at other’s misfortunes.

This morning my smoothie was a little too thick for the blender. So I decided I’ll add a little more liquid to help thin it out. As the blades are straining to turn, I took off the lid to pour in some liquid and .. BINGO …. I become a member of the elite “Smoothie Disaster” Club.

As I was standing in the middle of the kitchen, with the blender whizzing wildily; Smoothie dripping off my bald-head onto the floor; and my Jack Russell terrier dog lapping up the frozen fruit concoction, all I could do was laugh and wonder if this some type of LDL baptism?

Carolyn,

Thanks for the apology and it is accepted.  I  guess I am too overprotective with my children, and well that's not likely to change :)
The main thing is I ask you to forgive me and lets move past this and focus on either losing weight or as in my case encouraging others as they attempt to lose the weight.  Thanks.

Richard, Thanks for the kind words and I am not nor was I ever upset with you.  I so enjoy reading of the success of you and your family.  It is so encouraging to many here.  I understand your feelings about children online and believe me I agree and as I said it took me many months to trust her here.  The encouragement on these boards are so vital for her in her health needs, and I always checked before to make sure none of these weird ads came up on the boards.  Anyway I guess the time is not right as you said and I will continue to pray for another source of  help and encouragement she so needs.
To anyone else i may have offended I do apologize, but it was not my intention to offend anyone but rather to take a christian stand which is what I will always do.  Love In Chist ,

Ang - I'm so glad to see you back.  I've cried a bucket of tears since that day, and not seeing you here made it worse.  I'm glad that you went back and found my apology.  I thank you for your forgiveness and I will be especially careful  not refer to anything that I wouldn't refer to if children were in the room.  Believe me, normally I have much more tact.

That being said, I hope that we, indeed, can move forward and continue to support each other.

Big hugs,
Carolyn

Thanks ladies and gentleJoeman!
Mary, you can count on that greeter being there!! She will be perfect for the job...
I had to take her to a nutritionist this week and brought my copy of LDL along.  She said Hannah was overdosing on fruit and needed grains, potatoes, and dairy.  I think i have a whole mess of people here who could discredit that theory, either with the weight gained from grains etc. , or with the unbelievable weight loss we see here with so much fruit.  Nonetheless it is one step closer to the specialist Hannah needs...I just have to play by their rules for a while longer.
Thanks for the support guys!

Ang, did they do a fingerstick or urine for sugar or any other blood work on this particular visit or was the nutritionist going by just what Hannah's diet diary showed and/or by what she read in the book???? Didn't Hannah's weight loss and how she feels right now come into play at all?? (Where is a holistic medicine practitioner when you need one?!!) Some of what I've been reading in other publications says that giving diabetics all those high carb foods and dairy is just shooting more insulin into their systems as it all starts turning to sugar from the moment it hits the saliva. As Niki has so thoroughly and wonderfully explained in past posts, the body can't deal with this overload and starts telling the body to store the surplus insulin as fat. FAT! This certainly isn't good for anyone and most definitely not the way a diabetic should eat.  Do you feel confident to go against the nutritionist's advice by allowing Hannah to follow LDL and keep daily records of her intake, fingersticks, behavior and moods, and present all this to the specialist when you see him or her? We all know that mama knows what's best for her babies. (I used to never listen to the docs for mine when there were little, but we didn't have a health problem such as this, though.) And what about your own wonderful results on LDL? The nutritionist couldn't make the connection as to how the same way of eating might also benefit your daughter??? They get SO stuck in that one-way thinking of theirs!!! Grrrrr.... Hoping you come to some sort of solution and conclusion that you all can live with, at least in the short term, Ang. ....nyKath

nyKath,
They didnt do any labs but rather went by the previous labs the PCP submitted from her July physical.. The thing that irritates me the most is that the only thing her PCP reported she needed help with was the lipids, HBP, and obesity.  I asked where the insulin fit into the picture and she said she was only advised of the previous problems, therefore she could only advise of them.  I pulled out my labs but she stood firm. I cant figure out why the PCP wants to ignore this problem...maybe I insulted him by my own research and insistance.....sorry thats not likely to stop any time soon.  I have been her primary advocate for 3 years and it wont stop either. I have been tracking her every bite, glucose levels, even steps on the pedometer this week, but I am not sure who will see it at this point!! I wish this was simple but it just isnt yet. Tahnks for your concern and advice....At this point any helps!
