I'm thinking bout trying this out.
http://www.c25k.com
I've never had knee problems and don't wish to; however, I weigh 300 pounds. Is it safe to go ahead and try? Of course I won't be going fast. What are warning signs of shin splints? I've been sedentiary for years, but I've been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and need to get my blood sugar down.

if you stretch really well, you won't have to worry about shin splints.....it's pain in your shins that it's REALLY hard to ignore.....it's from your making demands on your muscles that they're not prepared to meet....stretching increases the circulation preparing the muscles for increased exertion...

HI Vicki,

What you are looking to accomplish is admirable. *hug*  I am one of those that believes anything is possible.  What I would say is this- please go on line and look for a way to train for this and lead up to it that will be friendly to your body and your system. Also because of your condition, you may wish to clear this with your doctor. S/he may wish to do a stress test before you embark. Not knowing your age or medical history, it is difficult to know when you can accomplish this. Notice I did not say IF, I know you can it is a matter of taking the correct steps.

Please let us know how you progress. So glad you found your way to LDL.

Vicki, this is a great website and a good idea.  But, I'm with niki and julie...get your doctor's OK, and start slowly and carefully.  Any exercise is good for the body, but you will lose weight on LDL without exercising.

I'm pretty heavy, too, and so far have lost without exercise.  But, I've made up my mind to start some kind of program once I'm below 200 lbs.  Have you read the article CQ posted on Rebounding?  It's a great article, so much good info.  Rebounding it so easy on your joints and you can do it in any kind of weather.  (a rebounder is on my Christmas wish list)  I think there are several ladies on the boards who are rebounding.  But, everyone is different and rebounding may not appeal to you...so whatever type of exercise you choose, make it something you will enjoy.  If you enjoy running, then you're more likely to stick with it.

I'm also diabetic - type 2 - and would love to get off my meds some day soon.  We can do this!  Please keep us posted on your progress, and Happy LDL Eating!

Thank you all for your input!  o2bthin I read the rebounding article you mentioned and think this is the better option for me at this point, especially since bad weather is just around the corner. I'm 51 and have been inactive for so many years this will ease me into exercising and discipline. I need to start doing better eating the LDL way too.

Vicki, I'm 58, and have always hated exercise.  I've been overweight since graduating HS - gradually packing on the pounds til I'm as wide as I am tall.  Name any diet you can think of and I've been on it at least once - some of them twice or more.  Did Atkins 3 times!!!  Always struggled to lose.  Always gained my weight back.  But, I'm finding LDL very easy to stick to.  I'm not hungry...not craving.  I do find myself sometimes over-eating out of habit...I've got to break myself of that...but otherwise, I'm doing real good.  I see you've already lost a good deal of weight...congrats on that.  LDL will help you lose the rest and will help you keep it off.  I've got a little over 20 more pounds to lose before I start exercising (rebounding), and for the first time ever I'm a little excited about the idea.  Go figure.  Must be something in all those beans!

I wish you many successes in this new way of eating and in your exercise program.  We can do a lot (and lose a lot) a little at a time.  I'll be looking for your future posts and cheering you on!!

Vickiann OMG

I heard about this exact program on iTunes and was trying it out (*successfully) for about 2 weeks.  I bought the Nike+ iPod shoes and sensors, and I signed up for the run community and started tracking my progress.  However, the pain, swelling and discomfort in my ankle that I had experienced every day for like 4 months was not getting better but getting worse with my new efforts of walk/jogging every other day.

So finally, I decided to see a specialist because I really wanted to wear these killer HOTTT 3 3/4 inch heels to a party and I could not walk one step without severe pain.  I went in and had the x-rays to find (*low and behold for a fat person) that I have severe degenerative osteo-arthritis in my ankle and the doc says that running is the worst possible thing that I can do.  The prognosis was VERY bleak, believe it or not he suggested I invest in a big bottle of pain killers and stick to low impact exercise like swimming and bike.

I would not and could not accept this!  True I was devastated for like 5 days (and subsequently did terrible on LDL) but I just snapped out of it and ordered a product I saw on TV called Supple.  Doctors cannot prescribe supplements, so though he told me that a regime of glucosamine and chondrotin could help he did not elaborate or give me much hope.  As the story goes, I went ahead and ordered the product and miraculously the pain is GONE!  Even in other places where I did not know that I had arthritic pain are doing wonderful, like my shoulders and wrists.  I knew about my knees and I cannot believe that after at least 10 years I can now walk up a flight of stairs without feeling any discomfort!  I actually jog up stairs now!!

I do not plan to start back running until I have gotten the Supple in my system for at least 6 months, but I do plan to continue to build up my endurance and pray for the day when I can jog/run again because when I was not obese I really enjoyed doing so.

I did not post any links because I do not want to appear as if I am advertising for the product, but if you are experiencing any sort of pain that may be due to arthritis please do not hesitate and give it a try.  Don’t let pain be your reason for not trying this life changing program. And don't be fooled thinking arthritis is only for older adults (* I certainly was), It can happen as early as your 20's!

All for now and hope this helps!

Thanks Julie I am sooo happy it is unbelievable really.  I have since found a cheaper version that has the same dosages of glucosamine and chondrotin at a local whole food store.  After I run out I'm going to give it a try and hope for the same results.  I hope your people are able to see amazing results as well!

I have a very bad knee that I had surgery on in Feb. of this year.  The surgery did not work out so now they want to do replacement surgery.  I have been so much better taking glucosamine and chondrotin.  I buy mine at Costco with msm in big bottles so I can take more then 1 pill and it has just taken that edge off that would have made it impossible to walk go up down my stairs.
