I  was just reading today that people who have trouble keeping their blood levels normal are taking Aloe Vera Plant.  The tests they have done with Aloe Vera sounded like a good thing.  You can type in Aloe Vera and diabetes in your search engine and there are interesting articles.

interesting and many cancer patients if taking  treatment are sensitive to sunlight so they would be vitamin D deficient..

My A1C jumped from 7 to 12 when I started working 3rd shift.  I have it down to 9 now, but that's not good.  I just bought the book and I'm about to start LDL.  Does anyone have any insight into how that works with third shifters?  Do I eat the "lunch" at 3 a.m.?

Wow,
Third shift is a bummer.
I guess it would depend on when you sleep. Lunch at 3 would be about right if you plan to crash within a few hours of getting home. I know some stay up until about 2 in the afternoon and sleep until just before time to get to work. In that case you could do fruit and salads at work and have a big meal when you go home. The thing is not to be going to sleep after a big meal. You need to be up and moving for several hours after eating that big protein meal. Let us know how you have worked it out as there are others on the board who do the night shift also.

you know i only eat my fruit once a day ( due to my diabetes) and that is every morning when i take my large glass of smoothie that lasts me until lunch time and sometimes to 2:00 pm on the weekends when we wake up later and don't eat breakfast until about 8:30am. Monday through Friday I eat around 6:00 am. I don't snack on anything else before or after lunch. I might have some strawberries, banana or grapes in the evening for a snack after dinner but only a little to satisfy my craving for a sweet and i am good. I work very hard at limiting my sweets throughout the day and evening so that my blood sugar does not spike at night. I like it to be around 110 or below each morning. giving up beer has been the huge eye opener. i loved beer but my sugar levels were always high. when i drink, i have Tanqueray Gin, Diet Tonic water and a splash of Diet Sierra Mist. i noticed my glucose stays in check and i have continued to lose weight even though i am drinking these which is usually 2-3 times a week. I don't get food cravings drinking this like i did with Margaritas and or Beer. I am taking 2000 mg/day of Onglyza. I sure would like to cut that down to 1000 mg/day soon.

comments?

There is information on this video that is very beneficial to diabetics.  I'm wondering if this is why I've cut my mom's insulin in half recently.  It's about astaxanthin.  We get it from vitacost.com.  If anyone never ordered from there before and wants me to send them a referral, let me know.  We can both save $10 from our orders.  It's a win-win.  You can order without the referral, though.

Crickadoodle,

Astaxanthin is the best thing that's happened to my family in a long time. A couple of years ago, at the advice of one my stepmother's best friends who's a native Indian and knows a lot about these type of things, told her to start taking it for her cataracts. Now, her doctor says that she won't need surgery because they're gone. She then shared her experience with my mother who has glaucoma and her doctor has since reduced the amount of drops that she needs to take.

My mother also recently had a physical and her doctor changed her oral meds for her diabetes. More than likely it was because of the Astaxanthin.

CQ, my mom's blood sugar numbers seem to keep adjusting to the lower insulin, so I lower it still.  Like tonight I gave her only 2 ccs of insulin.  She used to get 10 ccs at night.  I went down to 8, then 6, 5, and 4.  I did 3, but her numbers were still lower than her doctor wants, so I'm going to see how 2 does.  Her morning amount used to be 15, but now I give her 7ccs!  I'm wondering where it'll end -- hopefully she won't need it at all.

I have it ordered.  My dh's eyes aren't the greatest.  He goes to a specialist every six months. I want to take it for brain fog, prevention.  Wonder if local stores would have it?  Thanks again for the info.  *hug* JF

I think I bought it at Wal-Mart. If not, I know health food stores carry it.

Oh, I am also going to start giving my mom alpha lipoic acid (ALA) after reading that even medical doctors say that it helps diabetics with neuropathy.  Mom has been complaining a lot lately that her feet hurt.  The homeopathic doctor we go to through the remote feedback hand cradle said to try it.  She also said that the spirulina she prescribed helps diabetes, and could be part of the cause for Mom needing less insulin.  She is also going to give  her something to help her pancreas.  Now this doesn't have to do with diabetes, but Mom has been complaining about her skin itching and the doctor said that she is lacking potassium and this causes itching.  So she'll have something for that too.  It is exciting now that the dementia is gone that we can work on other areas of weakness.  It is such a blessing to have my mom back and to experience real conversations with her.  We are on day 10 now!!!
