HI Guys.
For those of you who have children in their lives, you should also look at the increase of soy products in the diet as a contributor to early puberty in children. If you are reading ingredients lists you may have noticed how soy has crept into a lot of our foods.

This part from the web: Soy has one of the highest concentrations of phytoestrogens, which are naturally occurring plant estrogens. In adults, phytoestrogens are generally considered neutral or even beneficial, especially from dietary sources. However, some researchers feel that the concentration of phytoestrogen in soy infant formulas may reach dangerous levels because these formulas are the only or primary source of nourishment for so long. These researchers claim that infants fed soy formula receive the estrogen equivalent of five birth control pills per day (based on body weight). About 25% of infants in the United States are fed soy-based formulas.

If you do a simple search, you can find a lot of info about the possible effects of soy on young boys and girls. I won't attempt to copy it here, but aside from early puberty bc of all the estrogen, the boys may begin to exhibit some feminine characteristics if the Soy estrogen tips the balance between estrogen and testosterone (as CQ explained above).  :sideways:

So if you are buying soy chips in an effort to keep the kids healthy rather than offering potato chips, you may want to do so in moderation if at all. Also note that a lot of power bars, protein and breakfast bars as well as shake mixes are soy based. You may be surprised at how much soy you were eating pre LDL without even knowing.  *lipssealed*

For me since I already have a depressed thyroid function, I probably made myself more ill in an attempt to eat healthy by using soy based shakes as a meal substitute. That is probably why I immediately felt so much better as soon as I started LDL. YEAH!  Sure wish any of the doctors and specialists I had gone to had mentioned that possibility!

A friend of mine was having female problems and did some research on soy products and felt her problems were caused by the soy milk she was drinking.  The way she explained it to me, it had something to do with soy products that weren't fermented.  Like, I believe tofu is fermented, so it didn't cause the problem.  She was saying that the Japanese mainly use fermented soy products.  I'm not sure all the details, I just remember that she found her problems diminished.  She also said the same as Julie about little boys on soy developing feminine characteristics.

I don't know anything about sprouting, fermenting etc.  But pre-LDL I remember I ate as many soy products as I could work into my diet.  I used Soy Sensations nutrition bars daily, before & after my workouts.  During this time when I was having the worst female problems, a friend at the gym told me that eating a regular diet of soy caused her significant female problems, but I didn't stop using them.  They were cheap ($.79 ea.) high in fiber & protein, low in calories & cholesterol.  They tasted fantastic & I was losing weight so well I was in denial.  I don't have any way of knowing whether it was due to the soy, but in retrospect, it was during this time that I was having 3-week long periods and routinely passing clots the size of tennis balls.  *scyth*

SOOO glad those days are past.  I'm still growing a thick, lush crop of chin whiskers, though.

Had BAD PMS today but surprisingly little joint pain.  LDL is wonderful for that.  Needed to eat protein twice.  Also ate sugar & white rice.  Someone brought it for Neil & it was the only thing I tried that I could keep down.  Having troublesome nausea & vomiting & one of my kidneys is on fire.  Praying there is not something else going on and this is nothing more than my once-every-11 months weird period.

Gwennaford,

I hope you're not trying to get a kidney infection. Have you tried drinking a ginger tea? That will help with the nausea.

Also, I had a friend that use to drink soymilk every morning with her cereal. I was working at a Seven Day Adventist Hospital and they are vegetarians. She was passing horrible clots to the point where she was missing work during the first few days. That was the first thing the doctor told her to stop doing (soymilk). After that she was fine.

Oh, one more thing, it's definitely something you want to avoid if you've had cancer due to the estrogen in it.

Thanks for info, CQ.  As a matter of fact, I'm trying NOT to get a kidney infection.  LOL

I haven't had the problems with huge clots since I stopped eating the Soy Sensations nutrition bars twice daily.  It's unfortunate that something so good for you in so many ways can be so harmful in others. I'm sure that fresh (unprocessed) edamame and the soynuts eaten as an occasional snack are fine for most people.  Taken in large quantities over an extended period of time, who knows?  Same can be said of most foods, probably, when you don't know how and where they were grown and processed.  Just another reason to stay away from extensively processed foods, right?

Gwen,

so sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Are you due for a check up?  Can you get into the doctor? I don't like the sound of your symptoms; pain and vomiting  *lipssealed*  :wrong:

Please go get checked.  *hug*

Gwen,
did you go to the doc and see what was going on?  I'm hoping the hair on my chin goes away I shave every two days.  I grow a beard, I do know that I have PCOS and it does have to do with hormones.

No, didn't get to the doctor, but the kidney pain went away.  So did most of the stomach pain/nausea weirdness.  I decided I had dyspepsia. (see my journal for details.)  Once I quit feeling guilty about drinking my seltzer water & decided to just "have at it" as Roger Troy says, then my tummy was much happier.  But it took several more days until I didn't think about my stomach hurting & feeling sick all day long.  Now I only think about it when it's telling me it's hungry!

Janel, I just wax most of them and pluck the rest.  Gives me something to do.   Image

Gwen,
Just as long as your feeling better is the important thing.

I'm just not better yet, last night I drink two cups of pepperment tea and splenda.  My tummy felt well enough for me to go to sleep.
