If potatoes pass the test.....
....will it really be possible to make a lean pot roast surrounded by baked carrots, onions and POTATOES??
And eat until we're full?
And STILL lose weight?
Sounds like a miracle!

Can't wait for the weigh in...my husband has a wonderful venison stew recipe that I've been avoiding because it has potatoes in the recipe.

CQ, where do you find venison? I would love to get my hands on some! Do you have hunters that supply you with the meat?

Mary J,
My husband's second job is "hunting."... He goes every weekend to GA during hunting season (except the two weekends when the Jazz festival is taking place in Clearwater).

CQ, I wish they had jazz festivals in Alaska. If they're out there, I've been missing them! I'm looking forward to the next Kenny G concert~ I never miss his fantastic shows!

SweetRose,
Then maybe you could use the Jazz Festival as an excuse to fly to FL. I'm sure sooner or later he'll be performing.

Yes, I'd follow him around the country if I could. Oh wait...would I then be considered a regular fan, or an over-zealous stalking fan?
I'd better wait till Kenny G comes up to Alaska again! He was last here 2 years ago - twice in 2009!

I've always wanted to go on an Alaskan cruise. I did see Alaska from the air on my way to Japan a few years ago. Russia too. That was kinda neat. Venison is so much better than grain fed animals we get in stores. My husband keeps talking about taking up hunting.

I have been buying ground Bison (at Wal-Mart).
They can't put bison in feed lots, so they are free-range, grass fed and if you can believe the label, no antibiotics or hormones.

I buy Bison at Publix when we run out of venison which isn't very often. I've also seen it at SweetBay. I haven't checked Wal-mart or Sam's.
I don't like to buy regular beef in the stores because as soon as it starts to cook, it has a funky smell ...at least I think so. My husband can't smell it. Anyway, it turns me off and I have to find something else to eat.

I'll have to keep my eyes open for bison! Thanks, Linda, for that input. I do have someone who sells grass fed beef, but won't have anything for me until the fall -- so until then, I just buy what is available in stores. At least we have improved our eating in other ways, though. It would be wonderful if the food industry got their act together and did stuff right, though. We can only dream, because it isn't going to happen.

Re: If potatoes pass the test.....
Just a warning, the Bison, even at walmart is pricey. Nearly 7.00/pd. Oh well, it does make a tasty taco soup!
And, CQ, it does smell and taste like the beef I remembered as a child.

Re: If potatoes pass the test.....
Yes, the bison is pricey but well worth it. It doesn't have that funny smell like the store bought regular beef and I can enjoy my meal without losing my cookies.
I just hope my husband continues to be quite fortunate on his future hunting trips to GA. This past hunting season he only came home once without anything. He said he could have shot the buck he saw but it was only a six point and he prefers an eight or higher.
Crickadoodle, you're lucky to have someone in your area that can provide you with healthy beef...even if it means having to wait until Fall.
