FROSTY FROZEN FRUIT SLUSH

Post by Valiadasilva »

This refreshing slushy is great for a party, or poolside barbecue…

2 cans 8 oz crushed pineapple, drained
1 can  11 oz mandarin oranges, drained
5 large ripe bananas
2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
2 cups water
1 can 12 oz frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
1 can 12 oz frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
1 cup lemon flavored soda water

In blender or processor place half pineapple , oranges, bananas, strawberries; cover and process.  :Pour into large bowl.  Repeat. Stir in remaining ingredients, mix well, pour ½ cup each into 24 plastic or glass cups.  Cover and freeze for at least 2 hours.  Remove from freezer 5 minutes before serving.  Will keep for 1 month in freezer.
24 servings.

That all sounds great except for the frozen lemonade concentrate.  It's going to contain a ton of sugar, probably high fructose corn syrup.

How about substituting a package of no sugar added koolaid lemonade and a cup equivalent of sweetener?  You wouldn't miss the body that the sugar adds with all the fruit content.  You might not even miss the lemonade...maybe you just want the juice of a lemon or two, and enough sweetener to balance?

It does sound really yummy and refreshing...and you could use any number of fruits...melon, cherries etc.

OOPS  - I just make lemonade at home and don't add the 2 cups water, and then sweeten it with Stevia..as I don't buy concentrated lemon juice - but ...for some strange reason thought you could get just 100% lemon juice... with no sugar....  DUH...
