Ginger Ale

Post by tprouty »

My hubby and I were in a health food store in the city last weekend, and he got a bottle of organic, healthy ginger ale. Of course, it had sweetener in it, and though I love the taste of "real" ginger ale, I didn't drink this one, because of the sugars. Even if it's organic and healthy ingredients, not all of those healthy ingredients are good for healthy weight loss! But I thought, why shouldn't I make my own ginger ale? So here's what I came up with:

(Makes 1 large glass)

3 or 4 ice cubes
a pinch of lemon zest
About 1/2 - 3/4 teaspoon (more or less to taste) of finely grated fresh, peeled ginger. I used a microplane grater
Sparkling water or club soda
Stevia or splenda to taste

Put the ice cubes in a tall glass. Put the lemon zest and grated ginger in a very fine strainer. Hold over glass, and slowly pour the sparkling water or club soda through the strainer. Stir in sweetener to taste.

Very festive and refreshing!

This sounds great...I'll have to find one of those little graters.
