Pizza Hummus (Pizza Dip)
Pizza Hummus
3 c. garbanzo beans (I used beans I cooked from a bag, rather than canned)
1 1/4 c. water
3 3/4 t. basil
1 1/2 t. salt (or 1 t. sea salt)
1/4 c. olive oil
4-5 cloves garlic
3 t. crushed red pepper flakes
1 1/2 t. oregano
1/3 c. tomato paste
I made this last night and it was really good. The recipe actually calls for 3/4 c. tomato paste, but I cut that down, as I didn't want it to taste too tomatoey (if that's a word...lol). I'm sure you could put in less olive oil if you wanted to, so as to have fewer calories.

You could put it on grilled zuchini or eggplant and top it with mozzarella cheese like little pizzas. I am going to try this tomorrow, I will cook up a bag of chick peas tonight. I go thru a lot of them with my banzo fries, on salads, and toasting them for snacks. I go thru a lot of beans daily and they go right thru me.

Re: Pizza Hummus (Pizza Dip)
I made this just now. It's very good! BUT, not sure if I'm using the right amounts.
Is it 3 CUPS? Which is what I put in. I only used 2 tsp of the pepper flakes, thank goodness as it was spicy/hot.
I added more beans to cool it a bit. It's yummy though!

Re: Pizza Hummus (Pizza Dip)
Hi Mary. Yes, the recipe I found on the internet for Pizza Hummus/Dip did have 3 t. crushed red pepper and 3 c. garbanzo beans. I didn't think it was too spicy when I made it, but I know some people are more sensitive to spicy foods, as my mother-in-law doesn't like the least little bit of cayenne/hot sauce/red pepper flakes in her food as she thinks it is way to spicy...lol. I think the recipe said "3 t. red pepper, or to taste". I suppose you could even omit it if you wanted to. I really like this recipe, as I thought this hummus tasted quite a bit like pizza. Jerrie
The website I got it from also had another recipe called Savory Hummus. I tried it too and it was very good also. If you want to give it a try it is as follows:
Savory Hummus
3 1/2 c. garbanzo beans
2 cloves garlic
10 T. water
4 T. olive oil
4 T. lemon juice
2 t. cumin
2 t. corriander
1/2 t. crushed red pepper
1 1/2 t. salt (or 1 t. sea salt)

Re: Pizza Hummus (Pizza Dip)
Hi Nana. The recipe did not specify whether the basil was fresh or dry, so I assumed it was dry and that was what I used and I thought it was very good. I'm sure you could use fresh, but if you do I think you are supposed to triple the amount of dry, i.e., if a recipe calls for 1 teaspoon dry herbs, you use 3 teaspoons (1 tablespoon fresh).
I think this is the recipe link where you can find the recipe on the internet:

Re: Pizza Hummus (Pizza Dip)
I perfer the original hummus, but I used 1/2 cup to thicken some veggie soup and it was great. I also put it on some grilled eggplant with cheese on top and loved it. I used some of it to thicken the gravy and steak strips I made for dinner tonight and served it with spinach and baked potatoes for my husband. He liked it I put some more veggies in and put the crockpot on low, so lunch is made for tomorrow, steak and veggie soup.
I went to babysit for my daughter and had baked chicken, 1/2 c. baked beans (not LDL), some green beans and while the kids ate cake, I had frozen grapes. Gina brought home some Pakistani food which I tasted and when I came home and fixed dinner for DH, I sampled the steak and had a bowl of spinach with lemon butter. I am a nighttime eater. Well, as Scarlet said in "Gone With The Wind" Tomorrow is another day, so I'll start again.
