Dip for Shrimp
I enjoy shrimp...all kinds, and I know mixing ketchup and horseradish can be high in sugar because of the ketchup. I found a recipe today that I think can take the place of it and am I going to try it this weekend...
It seems ok for LDL - any thoughts?
1 can cannelli beans, rinsed and drained
1 tsp olive oil
2 tbsp fresh chives, minced
1 tbsp horseradish
1/2 tsp basil, and oregano
1 pinchs of hot sauce
2 tsp lemon juice
pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
IN food processor or blender do the beans, oil and horseradish. Then mix in the chives, herbs and pepper sauce. Season to taste with lemon and salt and pepper and refrigerate for 1-2 hours for flavors to blend.

Re: Dip for Shrimp
Or we could make our own ketchup and add the horseradish. (?)
I don't how much horseradish to add but here's the recipe for ketchup:
Homemade Ketchup
Ingredients:
12 ounces tomato paste
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon oregano
1/8 teaspoon cumin
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
1 clove garlic -- pressed
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in food processor or blender. Store in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator.

Gwennaford --I thought I did this post on the sauces board? Did I do it incorrectly? I love to cook and try out new recipes -once I get my book I and really know the combos/food better I will probably do alot more after testing out some things.

No, you did it correctly. Looking at the top of the screen I can see we're in the Recipes > Sauces, etc. section. Your recipe looks yummy. Did you try it over the weekend?
What I meant was to remind EnJae to post her ketchup / coc*tail sauce recipe as a new topic if she hasn't already done it. I was lazy and didn't check.

Re: Dip for Shrimp
I did try it - I added a little more hot sauce and horseradish...I like it spicy - and it was good. Not only did it hit the spot but the beans helped keep me satisfied. On other diets beans had so many calories that I only ate them occasionally... gotta love LDL!! beans ok all the time...

Re: Dip for Shrimp
Hi....and thank you for the recipe for Shrimp Dip....when I'm in the mood for traditional cocktail sauce....I use
HEINZ REDUCED LOW SUGAR (made with splenda) ketchup....haven't figured why they call if low sugar because it doesn't have any in it??
with horseradish & lemon or lime juice & dash hot sauce (like Frank's or Tabasco)....I keep a canning jar in the fridge and its always handy...yummy

Re: Dip for Shrimp
So LMSP,
How long do you think this dipping sauce will last in the Frig? Anytime I pull out the food processor, I think I am going to have the leftovers forever -- this usually gets me into trouble bc when I eat something too often, I develop an allergic reaction to it. I live alone so it's just me!

Re: Dip for Shrimp
One can of beans does not make that much - I am the only one in my home who eats LDL and it lasted for about a week w/no issues for me
