My fave green smoothie

Post by Mary J »

I received my vitamix last week and have been enjoying green smoothies each morning! My absolute favorite is mango, grapes and kale! YUM!

Not really sure.. Couple of handfuls.. They say on the blenditandmendit.com you should 60% fruit and 40 % greens. And they say keep it simple and only use a few ingredients. Otherwise youll get burnt out if its to much trouble to make. And also to rotate your greens regularly. So far I've used, kale, spinach, Swiss chard and romaine.

This is on the Vita Mix site. I am going to the blendit site after this. I forgot about that one!
1/2 cup water
1 cup green apple
1/2 cup pineapple chunks
2 cups fresh spinach --can use kale
1/2 ripe banana
1/2 cup ice
Blend 1 mon makes 2.5 cups.
Theirs is a 64oz pitcher, mine is a 48..
I hope this helps.
Knowing the ratio 60/40 is very helpful Mary. Thank you.

Fresh Margo's have been on sale here in FL. I buy them every time I go to the store. Cut them up and freeze. They are so much better than the frozen ones you buy. Much sweeter. To me anyway.

Oh forgot to say, mine is also a 48oz container. But, I found a 64oz online at Bed Bath and Beyond for a good price, and I always have 20% off coupons from there! Can't resist getting it!

I have to check that out. That was the only part of the decision making when I purchased mine. I really wanted the 64oz but it wasn't worth the price change. I am very happy with the 48oz, it really seems to be doing the job. But, I know with the 64oz, I can freeze a lot more as preparing ahead.
It sure will come in handy for soups in the winter. Being able to make ahead and freeze just makes life so much easier, and I am all for that!
Mango's are on sale at my store now. I am going to go and load up on those.
I think there is an old black berry root sprouting up along our back yard fence.. I am going to nurture that and see if I can get it contained and growing again. That would be so nice to have fresh black berries again.

Oh, I just wanted to say: Yesterday I made a spinach, peach and cucumber smoothie and all I had was water. It was delicious. Very simply. There are so many ingredients that a smoothie "doesn't' need to make it really satifying. This is one of my favorite things about this machine and of course, NOT having to peel everything all the time! :D
