What About Nuts and Seeds on this eating plan?

Post by SusanE »

My husband and I are starting this plan together.  He eats peanuts practically everyday.  Scanning the posts, I noticed seeds and nuts were mentioned as off-limits.  We don't have the book yet so would like someone to explain.  Thanks!

Mary,
What about the soy nuts that everyone has been talking about? I thought those were ok? Are they just an every now and then kind of thing if you get a craving for nuts?

OH, that's interesting, I didn't know that! Where can you find soy nuts, I can't find them in the grocery store but I have been looking on the nut isle. I looked in the produce section as well and didn't see any. Can you only find them at a health food store?

Mary,
Where were they in your grocery store? Was I looking in the wrong place?

I do like soy  nuts, HOWEVER, I've read that too much soy can stall your thyroid.  I take Synthroid for hypothyroidism, so I really limit my soy products.  Just a FYI!  I try to stick to popcorn, if I need a crunchy food fix!

Wishing you the best!

Kelli,
I haven't heard that. I take synthroid also. I just bought some but only to have in case I get a craving for peanuts or peanut butter.
I will make sure that I only use them for cravings.

I had heard that about soy & thyroid and estrogen production as well.

Ask Niki about it (in a Personal Message, if necessary).  She's a nurse who's been successful on LDL and also has thyroid issues.

Fresh or frozen whole soybeans in their pods.  Roger loves them!!

I couldn't find the fresh soybeans at any of the stores around me so maybe that's why! I didn't know that was what they were called! I will have to check again!

Thanks Pat!

I like the Seapoint Farms Edamame that are in the freezer section.
They are lightly salted soybeans in pods you can thaw and eat.  No cooking!  I like easy.
Plus I can thaw just what I want to eat rather than the whole package.
They are good zapped in a microwave too just enough to warm them.
Yummy stuff!
