Sunflowerseeds

Post by hollin83 »

In an effort to be healthy in every aspect of my life I am now trying to quit smoking. I am one that has to eat when I am quitting. So I'm trying to find something that I can eat that still follows LDLs guidelines. Can I eat sunflower seeds or are they a nut to? I need something that I can carry in my purse and eat on the go. An suggestions would be great!

to tell you the truth, if you nibble on sunflower seeds or EVEN ldl approved snacks every time you have an urge for a cigarette, you're going to end up destabilizing your blood sugars giving you cravings...i think you'd be better off doing the nicotine patch or gum or even chantix....this is just my call on this...maybe you'll get more input from some of the people on these boards who've recently quit...even maybe who quit while on let's do lunch....maybe someone did snack more and managed to stay on track..

You may need to carry some corn thins.
I munch on them when I have nothing else.
Maybe carrying those iddy, biddy boxes of raisens in your purse would help.
I have to admit, though, I have become addicted to the mint chocolate chip sugar free gum.
Put I have chewed so much of it my jaws are sore so will have to wean off it too.
I know I need more water. Sometimes our brain tells us we are hungry when in reality we are dehydrated.
If it wasn't so blasted cold at work I am sure I could drink more.
But I keep going for the coffee just to stay warm.

Corn thins are a great idea! I too can not chew to much gum or my jaw gets sore. And I can also carry a bag of pop corn to work with me. Thanks for the ideas.

Jo, soy "nuts" are not actually nuts. They're soy beans and we all know how beneficial beans are onLDL.

Roasted Chick Peas are also a crunchy substitute for nuts

Mix up some soybeans and raisins.  Kills chocolate cravings too.  But don't eat too much of this mixture because of the raisins.

Good Luck quitting smoking hon.  I will give you my take as a former smoker.  Eat stuff instead of smoking if you have too.  Snack on crunchy stuff like celery and carrots along with any other fresh veggies you like.  You will reach a point where you will be past your nicotine cravings and then it'll just be a matter of your body adjusting to LDL, which it will do eventually.  I promise!  :D
