Yes, Nicki, hominy is okay, both white and yellow.

thanks a bunch, this is one of my favorites, I like to cook it up with pork chops and a lot of black pepper.

that is NOT a stupid question.........to tell you the truth, i thought hominy came in a can and it was like white stuff that you cubed and put in your food......grits, i believe, is more like polenta....

Re: how about hominy?
there are two types of canned hominy you can buy, loose or packed...I prefer the loose, either yellow or white over the packed kind, which is white hominy crammed into the can and not in big loose pieces. I grew up with the loose kind and we always fried it with pork chops or in a little bacon grease or with sausage, whereas, my Motherinlaw grew up cooking the packed kind by boiling it and serving it with syrup...yuck...there are two distinct hominy camps...lol

Re: how about hominy?
Polenta is VERY PROCESSED corn. It can stall your weight loss efforts before you even start if you add it right away. I would wait until you get a good start and then try a very little bit to see what happens. A while back we were all trying different processed corn products and everybody came to a standstill. Enjoy the corn on the cob or frozen corn. One time I processed some frozen corn in my blender, added some garbanzo bean flour, egg and seasonings and made corn "pancakes". They satisfied my need for something like that, but I didn't make it again because there is so much good stuff to eat.

I too love hominy and am so glad it's legal. Pork chops and hominy - now that just doesn't sound like a diet plan. It sounds just plain good! Thanks, Eljayne

Eljayne;
Perhaps you misunderstood.
Hominy has the outer husk removed. It is NOT an LDL-approved food.
Also pork chops are more fatty than pork roast. Please change your plans to pork roast and corn.

Sorry, new LDLers. It seems I steered you wrong! I had the ocassional can of hominy a year or so back 'cause I thought they were okay. (I'm not a big fan of hominy.) As Gem says, "Do what the big guy says!"
