Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix?
Can someone tell me if it is ok to sprinkle Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing on your popcorn? I was craving something different than just plain popcorn last night and I thought of that. I looked at the ingredients and it doesn't have any fat or sugar and only 5 calories per 1/3 tsp. I sprinkled some on my popcorn and it was SO GOOD I hope that it is ok to use because I would like to use it again if I have a craving for something different.

Please post the ingredients so we can have a look. DEBBIEWEBE says she buys something similar in bulk at Costco. I don't think a little would hurt, but I'm having trouble believing it has no sugars.
please search for the 100 names for hidden sugars. don't remember the exact name.
bye!

Re: Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix?
Sorry no one replied quickly. I just now found this post.
The items in red are sugars, the items in blue are dairy, the items in brown are questionable.

It IS still alright to use this product occasionally. Just don't fool yourself into thinking it is an everyday, unlimited item...

Plus I think that msg ( monosodium glutamate) is really bad for you. I don't know where I read that - maybe someone could tell me.

Hi Tina,
I know it's so discouraging the way these companies hide sugars and things. Have you tried spritzing your popcorn with some EVOO and then some garlic powder, thyme etc? Rosemary is also really yummy on the popcorn.
I also enjoy using I can't believe it's not butter spray with some splenda and a bit of cinnamon on my popcorn sometimes. I hope this helps.

Re: Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix?
Thanks everyone for your replies! I think I will just stay away from it. I really like the way that it tastes on the popcorn because I like how tangy it is. I think I figured out that it is the citric acid in it that I like. I saw in a post some where that you can by citric acid at the health food store so I think I am going to buy some. If I get a really bad craving that makes me want chips and dip instead of popcorn, I think I am going to put some garlic powder, onion powder, dried parsley, and some citric acid and I bet that would satisfy my craving! It sounds good!

Re: Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix?
Lizzy, I really like the way it tastes, too. It's one of my fave flavors. I've tried & tried to replicate it with no success. If anyone comes up with a good LDL recipe for it, either wet or dry, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post it & email or PM me (personal message - look at the bottom of the screen to see how to do it) so I don't miss it.
Buttermilk powder is available in the baking aisle. Don't remember its ingredients. It may not be any better than the mix, but it's worth a look. Sour salt (citric acid) sometimes is in the supermarket with the spices or kosher food section.

Tina,
I tried my Olive Oil Spray (that I use on my fry pans) because I have been reading about EVOO. This is REALLY good! I was very surprised. I hope my spray can is ok because I really like this.

I was on a diet once (ha ha) that allowed you to sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on it. I know I've seen low fat parmesan cheese would that be ok occasionally?

Re: Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix?
Ginny - your olive oil spray is fine. That's what Roger Troy uses on his popcorn. Then season it with sea salt (I grind mine into a powder in the spice mill), Splenda & cinnamon, herbs, nonfat Parm, chili powder - whatever you like. RT recommends just spraying the top layer then adding the seasonings. The seasoned ones sift down through the bowl, making every bite taste good. I tend to spray before and after adding the seasonings so they stick to the kernels better.

Tina,
If you buy the citric acid, let me know how you like it. I've had it before and it tastes horrible. I would smell it before you buy it to see if you think you will like it. It had a bitter ammonia smell/taste to it.

Massageangel,
Really? I was hoping it would have a sour taste that make things tangy. I guess I won't know until I try it. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix?
Hi, Tina! Thought I'd let you know that if you have a craving for the ranch powder, you can find it in a recipe included in the LDL book (page 127). The recipe is BOBBI'S TACO SOUP. Don't know why it would be okay to eat it in the soup but not on popcorn, but it's right there in the book! Good luck!
