Hello, and welcome to the LDL way of eating.  My wife and I are the two strangers that you waited on at the Outback Resteraunt.  I am so glad you are going to try this program. I truly believe you will be successful. Once you get started, you will see that your energy level will increase, and your pounds will decrease.  There is also a great support network in the event you become confused or have questions. Good luck, and keep us posted... Mike

I read LDL in April or May 2006.  I immediately began the new eating plan and within two months I had lost 12 pounds and kept them off.  Before LDL, I had been walking, running, and watching my diet, but nothing worked.  I just kept gaining weight.  I love the new eating plan because it doesn't feel like a diet.  I love fruits and vegetables so it was not hard to begin eating them regularly.  I feel healthier and want to continue losing 20 more pounds.  Thanks for Let's Do Lunch plan.

Hi, CMoe. Welcome to our bulletin boards and congratulations on your weight loss! Just say a little prayer and thank our Father in Heaven for Let's Do Lunch, just as I try to do every day of my life.

Would you please do me the favor of posting your same success story as a New Topic on the Testimonials Board of these bulletin boards, as many more people will see it there than will see it here as a "response" to a new topic.

Thanks, and keep it going, and keep us posted of your progress.

Your friend, forever,

Roger Troy

I'm trying to get info - caught the very end of a TV show touting the book and lifestyle change.  Other than eating beans and fruit, what is allowable, not allowable.  I have some med probs and would like to know a little more so I can speak intelligently to my MD before committing.  I have about 125 lbs to lose to relieve high blood pressure, achy knees, etc. and would love to find something that helps me take it off and keep it off!  thanks

Welcome, Bride! Read thru the last 2 pages on the General Discussion/Newcomers board and you'll see several posts there advising how to get started on the plan. And go thru the recipes to give yourself an idea of some of the ingredients you'll need to eat the LDL way. Beans and fruit have a prominent place in the LDL way of eating. Wishing you success! ..........NYKath

My sister gave me this book to read.  To be honest, I have probably 150 pounds to lose and so does my wife.  The problem is, however, we both simply love delicious food and fine dining.  I do not feel I can adhere to any diet if the food is not palatable.  Without wishing to sound like too much of a food snob, I flipped through the recipe section of the book and was not impressed.  The concept of the diet seems reasonable, but I feel the recipes are geared towards people with lower expectations from their food.  Again, I certainly do not wish to be critical as I have only just glanced at the book, and my sister assured me that Lets-Do-Lunch is a good direction for my wife and I to take.  Am I able to take part in this program without cooking the recipes from the book?

I would appreciate feedback.  Thank you in advance.

Hello and welcome, Andrew! Let's see here....Well, LDL is probably not considered "fine dining" in the minds of the typical Gourmet Magazine and Saveur reader. However, it is wonderful, healthy, low fat cooking made with love that's helping us get to where we want to be from a place where we no longer want to be - fat, out of shape, struggling with disease, suffering from bad self esteem, being unable to play with our kids, etc. The recipes aren't meant to impress. They're showing what can be done with the simple tenets and simple ingredients of Let's Do Lunch to improve our health and the health of our families. If your head can't get wrapped around the fact that this is a program geared to losing weight and improving health - and all that entails including life WITHOUT gravy & cream sauces & well-marbled steaks & high-fat cheese & pasta & bacon & wines, etc. -  then you probably won't find it very palatable. You're certainly at liberty to make the recipes any way you like them and try your hand with additional spicing, fresh herbs, vinegars, purees, beans (our favorite!), hot sauces, citrus,  etc. - whatever is allowed on the LDL plan - to make them more to your liking. We welcome variations on a theme! Just look thru the many recipe pages here and see all the experimentation that goes on! And with very tasty and successful results, too. Like anything else, Let's Do Lunch is a plan, an outline, and how you choose to follow it - or not - is up to you. Wishing you and your wife success on whatever avenue you choose to lose. :) ...NYKath

hi andrew..i've been doing this for almost 9 months and i've never used any of the recipes in the book...a few from the boards...i mostly have adapted the way i cook and the things i like, to let's do lunch...you can make all kinds of potted chicken and beef.....i sometimes cook lean pork with saurkraut.....burgers..steak....there are loads of things that you can do....our resident chef, mary simmons,is a culinary genius..there are loads of recipes on the boards that she originated like mashed potatoes and potato pancakes, pureed bean soups....SO many others....i think you'll find a huge selection of recipes on the boards that you won't find in the book...AND,you can use the recipes to give you an idea of what ingredients work for let's do lunch and which ones don't.....
it's given me almost 9 months of happy eating....i anticipate a lifetime of happy eating.........i wish you and your wife the same.................welcome to our boards.......................sincerely,niki

Andrew, I know just what you are going through. I too HAD a lot of weight to lose. I had a lot of doubt as to wether I could follow the program.  I can now say that in 7 months I have lost almost 70 lbs and I have been eating like a king.  I have developed  taste for food that I never thought I would ever like.  I "dine" on turkey, fish, chicken, steak once a week, and all the fruit and veggies I can eat.  All I can say, is to try it.  Give it an honest try and I think you will see that it is really something that you can do, and enjoy.  You don't have to believe this if you don't want to, but the old food that I have found out is not good for me, does not appeal to me anymore.  I walk by a box of donuts, and turn up my nose.  I go through the pasta line at the buffet, and go straight to the salad bar.  I am not the least bit shy about trimming the fat off my steak and don't care who sees me do it.  Give it a try. You owe yourself that much... Good luck... Mike

Hello, Andrew. The Let's Do Lunch recipes were designed to be simple and delicious, so that people "on the run" would have the time to eat this way.

Also, please print out from the New Recipes Board, Pizza Soup, Potato Pancakes, Beef Potato Pie, Tamale Pie, Mexican Black Bean Soup, etc., as well as print out the new Let's Do Lunch foods, like Corn Thins, Veggie Cheese (I love the Pepper Jack & Jalapeno melted on corn thins), I.M. Healthy Unsweetened Soynut Butter (spread on corn thins and add sliced banana on top...yummy!), dry roasted soynuts (mix with raisins and you've got a terrific snack), etc.

All you need to do is read the book to understand which foods to eat, in all the food groups, including healthy starchy carbs, lean red meat and the sweetest fresh fruits and fruit smoothies, and then prepare your recipes any way you want.

With Let's Do Lunch, you not only lose the weight...in my opinion, it's the only way to keep it off! It's so easy to do that you don't even realize you're doing it, because you don't count carbs, calories, fat grams, points or anything else, and you eat until you are full, and it eliminates all of your cravings!

God bless,

Roger Troy

Just thought I'd post my 2 cents worth too, in answer to your message, Andrew J.  I think you have already received some great responses to your posting.  Just like you, I was not sure at first whether I wanted to do Let's Do Lunch.  I like creating my own recipes instead of following other people's recipes.  Once I figured out the basic principles of this eating plan and learned that my success was not dependant on always eating the recipes in the book, I was quickly on the road to success.  (I cooked one of the recipes once, but that's all, and I've been on Let's Do Lunch for almost three years.)  Mike is right that you owe yourself that much to at least give it a try. On these message boards, there are many great recipes that are suitable with Let's Do Lunch.  I challenge you to try these recipes.....I should HOPE they'll be delicious enough for your  discerning palates:

Minty Chick Pea Soup
Moroccan Shrimp
The Best Chicken Marinade on The Planet
Vichyssoise
Mahi Mahi with Ginger & Rosemary
Exotic Indian Soy & Split-Pea Soup
Pureed Wild Mushroom Soup
Chicken Breasts with Porcini Mushrooms & Rosemary/White Zinfandel Sauce
Little Mary's Chicken Wraps (Like P.F. Chang's)

I don't think anyone could ever consider any of those to be unappetizing "diet foods."  Good luck to you & your wife.  You can eat LOTS of good food and lose your extra pounds.  I promise you!

Little Mary

I am truly overwhelmed that all of you have taken the time to reply to my message.  To think that the author of the book himself responded is amazing.  You have, at least for the time being, won me over to your side just because of your friendliness and encouragement.  Sandra and I will definitely read the book thoroughly and consider giving this diet a try.  The soups will be a winner, as we eat a lot of food quickly just before or after we get home from work.  Thank you for your support.

Andrew

Andrew,  I don't think you will regret reading the book and at least considering LDL. Remember one very important thing.  Everyone of the members have been where you are and we all know the value of the program... We are also very willing to help you and your wife with any questions you may have. All you have to do is ask.  Please keep in touch and let us know how you guys are doing.  Good luck and have fun.
