Brussel sprouts

Post by rollingpat »

I happen to love brussel sprouts and my favorite way to prepare them is to fry them.

Fried brussel sprouts
1 pkg. frozen brussel sprouts
2-3 cloves of garlic, crushed
2-3 T. olive oil

Add the frozen Brussel sprouts along with the garlic and olive oil and just fry until the sprouts turn a medium brown color.  Takes about 10 min.  I usually cover them and let them simmer after browning for about 10 min. or so.  I usually don't add water because, being frozen they send out enough moisture.  If they seem too dry add a small amount of water if you think they need it.
The flavor is very distinct compared to steaming them.
Hope you all enjoy them as much as I do.  ;D

Oh, NJ, NJ, NJ, NJ, NJ.............

They're soooooooo good!!!  Of course, I think I love just about everything (I didn't get this way for nothing!!)...  no, I don't like oysters on the half shell - but they're not good to eat from a health point anyway!

Big cabbages, little cabbages.... hey, you could make an itty bitty bowl of coleslaw!  LOL!!!

Hey just to say that not all guys don't like these things, they're ok cuz they remind me of my gramma who always makes them for holidays.  I would rather eat chorizo instead of brusselsprouts but they R ok too.  I think for Thanksgiving  i will print this up and take it so we can try them this way instead of just boiled like always.  thx, BB

Ditto on the sprouts here, NJ! BIG shudder!!!!....nasty things....never cared for stuffed cabbage, either, even when I did eat meat. I like raw cabbage in stir fries and cole slaw and purple cabbage shredded into the salads, but those sprouts are too stinky for me! And frozen lima beans....although I like every other bean out there, even the giant canned limas for my soups. To each, our own weirdness! :) ....NYKath

marysimmons wrote:What is it with American men and Brussels Sprouts??!!??  If you go to any western European country, from the age of two or three onwards, the kids say "MMmm, yes please!  more sprouts please!" Male or female, they love them!  My son Ben ate them every single Sunday in the UK with gusto!  No good meal would have been complete without them!

They're a great vegetable!!!!!  So here's a challenge.....do any of you guys out there like Joe or Richard or Tom or Gregg or Andrew or Ben or Mike have any answer to why American men have an aversion to the simple little Brussels sprout?

I love the Brussel sprouts! In fact it was our side dish Wed. night with some of Roger's beefy chicken. Nuked with the LDL approved I Can't Believe it's Not Butter. I also love grilled cabbage.

Quarter a cabbage, Smear it with I can't Believe it's Not Butter. Salt and Pepper. Make a tin foil tent, punture with fork, put on grill for about 15 min. or until tender.

Gregg and anyone else, how can I try this in the oven instead of a grill?  Is that possible?  I love the simplicity of this.

As for the brussel sprouts rollingpat, I won't know if I like them unless I try them.  I'll try them 'cuz it seems so simple.
I seem to have a theme here.....simple, easy.....that's for me.

I'll have to see my hubby's reaction to this cuz right now I picture him in Mary's categorization (is that a word?) of men and brussels sprouts.
Stay tuned.

OFF TOPIC
I would not eat them in a boat
But I would SHARE them with a goat.

Would you eat them on a train
Or how about while flying a plane?
