crunch dried sweet corn

Post by JerrieH »

I don't know if any of you have tried or seen them, but there is a snack made by Sensible Foods called "crunch dried" sweet corn.  When my family and I were on vacation recently I bought a package of them at the airport.  They are very sweet, but there is nothing in them but corn and sea salt.  I don't know how to describe them except that they are very light and airy kernels, slightly crunchy and very sweet.  They make a great snack to replace chips.  Since there is nothing in them but corn and sea salt, I can't imagine why they wouldn't be LDL friendly.  The company that makes them also makes other crunch dried fruits, but I haven't tried them.  I asked my local health food store to see if they could order some of the sweet corn snacks for me and they did.  It was a case of 12 for around $20.  I wish I knew how I could make my own corn like that, but I don't think that an oven would get that result.  Anyway, just thought I would recommend them.  They are really good.

Thanks for the info Mary.  Until my supply runs out, I have been having one package a night.  The package is not very large and I forgot to mention that they are only 70 calories and l gram of fat for the whole package.  They are really good.  Thanks again for the info.  Jerrie

Roger, did you mean that because the Crunch Dried Sweet Corn is processed (crunch dried somehow), that it may not be that great of a snack, as corn itself would be, even thought it has low calories.  If not, would that just be for a once in a while snack?  Jerrie

Anything "dried" will make it easier to overeat. But those dried fruits and veggies are a great alternative to junk food when traveling, and so convenient.
The crunch-dried corn sounds fine and as little as you are eating, it does not sound like an over-do.
You will just have t monitor yourself to see how it affects you.
Some on the boards found that eating popcorn in the evenings, stalled their losses.
For me bananas and sometimes grapes stalled me out.
For me overdoing any fresh fruit when not balanced with adequate protein during the day, increased cravings and stalled losses.

You will get to know your body intimately on this journey and that is a good thing.
We were all wonderfully, and uniquely made.
Getting to know which healthy foods truely nourish your particular body is what this WOE is all about.

Thanks LindaRN for the explanation on "dried" foods.  Fortunately they are small packets which helps with portion control.  Last  night I thought I would try roasting corn in the oven to see if I would get any similar result.  It was delicious, but nothing like the "crunch dried."  In fact the roasted corn was so good and the kernals were so small, I at the whole tray.  oops!  So much for portion control.  Oh well, at least it wasn't a candy bar. haha

Roger, I hope you like them.  I was so surprised how sweet they are with no added sugar.  You sure got a better deal than I did at my local health food store.  I paid just under $20 (with a 15 percent discount) for only 12 packs.  Thanks for posting where you got them and the good deal you got on them.  Jerrie :)

I looked at Amazon but currently a 12 pack is 16 dollars and some change. The 24 pack is over 32 dollars. Roger got a great deal.

I have a variety of dried fruits from Brothers-All-Natural    www.brothersallnatural.com    that I keep in my truck for hunger emergencies.  I prefer the pears, pineapple, and mandarin oranges.  The apples are good but so "ordinary".  I thought the peaches would be good, but they ended up on the "ok I'll eventually finish them, but never order them again" list.  The ingredients are 100% freeze-dried fruit.
