Food Court Option

Post by JerrieH »

Today I went to the mall with my daughter.  When we got there she wanted to go to the food court.  I did not, as I didn't think there would be many LDL options there.  I went with her to the Japanese restaurant at the Food Court, I think it is called Sarku Restaurant.  My daughter ordered her meal there and I noticed that they had a vegetarian side dish (veggies and steamed rice).  I asked for no rice and extra veggies.  Oh my goodness.  They gave me a huge serving of veggies (which was basically like coleslaw mix - mostly shredded cabbage and carrots, with a tiny bit of broccoli).  It was kinda stirfry/steamed.  It looked like they used very little oil and mostly steamed it under some kind of dome.  Anyway, they filled the entire styrophone container with the veggie mixture.  It needed some seasoning, so I added salt, and a little bit of the hot sauce that they have on their counter, and it was great.  It was so filling and took so long to eat, for very few calories.  By the time we left, I was stuffed.  (I think I'm going to try to duplicate it on my own stovetop.)

So if anyone is looking for an LDL food option at a food court, and if they have a Sarku Restaurant (assuming it is a chain of restaurants), it is really good and LDL friendly.

Jerry,
Thanks so much for this. The food court is someplace I usually cave. I will try the steamed vegetables next time. I always forget to do as Roger suggests and put LDL foods in the car! Thanks for sharing!

Roger - Thanks for the reminder on putting LDL foods in my car.  I need to do that.

Jencita - I hope you like it.  Mine needed a little salt & the little bit of hot sauce gave it great flavor without
being too spicy.  I didn't feel deprived at all with all the other food court foods there.  It was so filling and flavorful.

If I have the misfortune to be stuck in food court, I look for some fresh fruit, that and a few corn thins that I have stashed in my purse and I am full!!
