Well, you just can't force them.  I do see people coming around after rejecting this way of eating -- because so many are finding success.  I guess they figure, "Well, it's foolish for me to not try it too!"

And I get the responses like this past week where 2 people wanted to do what I'm doing, because they can easily see the difference it has made in me.  When people really want to change, they will ask you, won't they?  I guess the best advertisement for LDL is those of us who have been successful just living our lives in front of others.  They do want what we have.  It does seem too good to be true -- even at times for me, and I've experienced it!  I need to pinch myself, sometimes, to make sure it is real.  :laughing:

There have been quite a few people that have listened to me and gotten all excited about LDL.  But they don't stick to it and when some are on it they still feel they can eat certain foods they are not willing to give up.  Next thing you know they are totally off LDL.  I have one couple that were doing wonderful and calling all the time for advise.  Next time I saw them they said they had been doing so well they decided to celebrate by going off for a week end.  Well they never got back on and have gained all their weight back.  Now they are saying it just doesn't work long term.

My family  may come along when they see I am staying with LDL and still losing.  And when I get it all off and I don't gain it back.  They have seen me too many times go crazy over a diet and lose weight only to gain it back plus more.  It is hard for them to understand this is not a diet like all the others and would be easy to stick to for a life time.

My sister-in-law just started 2 weeks ago and has lost 7 lbs.  She just received her book so I am hoping she will do well on it.  She is hoping to get my niece on so that would give her someone to help support and get support.

I just am not sure I would have done so well without all the support on the boards.  If I were doing this on my own and not having some sort of accountability I think I would have been much less successful.  The two things that help alot for me is the journal and the loose caboose.

Wendy, I agree with you about the support on the boards here.  I wonder how well I'd have done without being able to share my successes and challenges.  You are right about how people look at us.  We've all gotten excited about other things in the past that fizzled out.  They want to see if it is real this time.  I know that I've never kept my weight off this long before.  This is so different.  It is a livet!  :D

It happened again.  Someone made a comment on how great I looked in my new (small top) and size 10 shorts and what was I going?

I explained LDL and she interrupted "Oh, you're still on that diet!"

Ahhhh.

While I have lost 12 lbs by last weeks account (I am trying to follow Roger's plan by not weighing myself every day and can tell I am shrinking since then, yeah me), my husband has lost 11 lbs by eating most of the same meals as myself, which is absolutely awesome!  He wasn't even trying which only proves that eating this LDL way works!

Some people want the quick fix (pill or surgery) and will not be discipline.  My mom plans on having gastric bypass which I am soooooooooo against.  She says she has tried everything but she hasn't.  She won't listen to me, not that I am preaching to her but this works for me and I know it would work for her too.  She is a fast food junkie and since she is disabled (health issues and problems getting around) she has no desire to change what she eats even though she has such health issues and takes 17 plus medications a day.  I tell her I love her and want to support her but I cannot support this.  Please pray for her.  I am praying that the surgery will not take place if it will cause any harm to her.

mylifeforhim,

It's a shame I can't introduce your mother to my younger sister. She was never really obese but in her mind she was so she convinced a doctor to perform a gastric bypass even though she didn't meet the criteria. She's lost all the weight she wanted to lose but she's 40 years old and looks 65+. Everyone thinks I'm the younger sister and it upsets her a great deal. In fact, the last time I talked to her she was planning on having plastic surgery to try to tightening everything back up. I have a very bad feeling that she's going to regret it.

My other sisters are on the LDL program because they don't want to end up like her...old and wrinkled before their time.

This is the season to be thankful, and my heart is over flowing with gratefulness toward all the board members who have given me ideas, recipes, and encouragement.  Roger, I'm so grateful for the book LDL.  It has changed my eating habits.  It's the first time in my adult life--the last 50 yrs. that I truly enjoy my food without guilt and wondering if I'm going to gain.  I still eat a lot of food, but I'm satisfied and have no cravings.  When I get on the scale, it may be up a pound or down a pound. I have stayed this way since late summer.  I have tried to help others, but so many people just don't get it.  I haven't been able to exercise since  the first of October, because I've had a bad leg, yet it is not exercise that made me small.  I've exercised  since 01.  It made me feel better, but never helped much with weight loss.  It was the cravings that made me eat pizza and sweets.  I still know how good they taste, but have no cravings.  I satisfy them with the same taste on LDL foods.  Last night I came from work about 7:30, I needed some savory food.  I have some turkey, dressing, and trimmings  left from  our church banquet, but I didn't need that.  I also had some roasted butternut squash and garlic soup---my was it delicious!!!  My hubby had the turkey, etc.  For Thanksgiving, I will have a wonderful LDL meal with extras for the people who have no problem with food.  God has been so good to me by giving me fine people like you and the others on the board.  Thanks to my Savior and Thanks to all of you.  *love* and  *hug* JF

Your plan will work RT. After people purchase and read LDL book they will understand, and want to do LDL everyday.

Praise our loving God for LDL community, and for those people who will be joining LDL.

Ok Roger,

Just suggest that they replace the sugar items with fresh sweet fruit?  Sounds like a plan.

Actually I think that is the way I started and when the weight just fell off.  Then I purchased the book to see what other good advice you might have.

Maybe that won't be as threating as giving up breads, rice and potatoes.

I still find myself wanting something sweet after a meal and I find that grapes do the trick.  Sometimes a couple of grapes, sometimes a clump and sometimes the whole pile.

Thanks so much for the reminder of how I started.

After coming back to LDL this summer, I am now back to my size 8s (from almost a 14!).  When I tell people how I did it, I of course tell them about LDL.  When they tell me they can't give up bread or pasta, I tell them not to give it up, just opt out of it, to give it a try and take it one day at a time.  That will usually get a "hmmm...maybe I'll try it".  I have to be honest though, that with the colder days and the season change, I seem to be craving the bread and rice more than usual :-(  I've started snacking on locally grown fuji apples at least twice a day.  They are so delicious.  They help somewhat, until the next craving hits.  So please help me to be strong and hold tight to this WOE.

JEM, I am now down to a size 14 by doing LDL so you only encourage me to see you are a size 8. Years ago I was a 7/8.  Hot soups and corn, beans, peas and popcorn have really helped me to not eat bread, pasta or rice or crave them.  I am a baker and always made homemade bread until LDL.  My husband misses it more than I do.  I eat Chinese at least twice a week and have steamed veggies and chicken on a stick or egg foo yung and don't miss the rice.  Just know you don't want to be where you were before and how great you look and feel now.  What works for me is when I feel like I can't do without something I just think about having to wear that larger size again and how bad I felt without all of these new looks, energy and ability to do more.

Jem, I think variety in your cooking is important in staying satisfied without cravings.  Make sure you have soups made, so you can have a hot steaming cup.  Different meat like roasts, hamburgers, fish, chicken, turkey, meat balls, meat loaf can be fixed with roasted veggies.  Corn thins and popcorn help me a lot.  I enjoy eating hummus on the rye crackers and corn thins.  Sometimes when I eat a bowl of beans with onion chopped in them satisfies me more than anything.  If I want another bowl, I can eat them without fear of gaining.  As the advice already given, "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels."  I just love slipping into my 6 and 8 sizes instead of my 16+ and 18.  I move much more easily.  I keep a whole lot of fruit on hand.  Sometimes, I eat raw apples, then I fry them or stew them with raisins, spices and splenda.  I eat my fill.  Grapes also help me a lot.  I eat at least one banana a day.  I have a lot of canned fruits as well as frozen.  Smoothies help me stay satisfied.  :thumbsup:  JF

Thanks for the encouragement Joyful. I will certainly keep in mind about my options out there.  I miss my fresh summer fruits.  I can't wait for them to come back.  Mylife, I'm glad I am able to encourage you.  One thing I have been very good at is staying away from fast food.  I have not gone near burger joints in months and you know what, I don't miss them at all.

I haven't read this thread before, but so identify with all that is being said. My cousins really need to loose weight (he has heart issues and she has had Cancer) They have watched me loose all the weight I want but just can't do what I am doing because......... I am not sure why. Seems they view LDL as very restrictive. We all know they just don't understand.
Roger, I like your suggestion of having them start with replacing refined sugar with fruit. I am holding that card close and am hoping that when the cousin's realize that "just cutting down on what we normaly eat" will not work in the long run, I will challenge them to just start with the snacking on fruit.
Great thread. I do agree that people really have to get out of the diet mentallity and discover this woe as and adventure!

Roger, we love cooked carrots----I roast them at very high temp.  It makes all the root veggies taste soooo sweet and delicious.  Parsnips, turnips, onions, and carrots.  Little Mary gave me that idea.  It is effortless.  Sometimes, I use a skillet.  When I was a kid, I hated turnips cooked.  I only liked them raw;however, I can't get enough of fried turnips.  They are sooo delicious.  Thanks to Linda, RN, for her beautiful picture of them.  I knew I had to at least try them cooked since my brother brought me a bag.  My taste buds have changed so much since LDL.  We need to fix a variety and be prepared.  If we don't have foods that we can fix when we're hungry, we won't stay on any way of eating.  That's the reason I think people should stock up on good canned goods.  In a pinch, I have opened a can of beans, add fresh onion, and with corn thins, my hunger is satisfied, and the best part the scale does not move upward.  KEEP THE GOOD IDEAS COMING MY WAY, AND IF YOU HAVE ANY NEW THANKSGIVING RECIPES, PLEASE SHARE.  :thumbsup:  :D  JF

Roger, I can't wait to try the carrots that way!

JF, thanks for the ideas.  I love Mexican food and can already picture opening that can of beans and adding my onion, peppers, cilantro and tomato.  I have been craving this so you just gave me an idea for fast food my way or should I say LDL woe!

I love the Rotel brand but it has too much salt and gives me high blood pressure.  We always like freshly prepared food, whether fresh, frozen or canned which makes this our new woe. :D

Hi Everybody!  I met with our LDL friend Ginny M. last weekend, and she shared hundreds of things that are coming back to me in dribs & drabs as my brain can assimilate them!

She created a business card with a picture of the red book filling the left third of the card, and on the right is www.letsdolunch.com followed by these bullets:

* Scroll down to the message boards
* Eat Until You Are Full
* Eat All Food Groups
* Eliminate Cravings
* Lose Weight
* No Exercise
* You don't Weigh, Count
      or Measure Anything

Then she laminated the cards and hands them out to people interested in learning about what she did!  Isn't that the most ingenious thing?
