I agree that we owe so much to these unselfish men and women.  My dad was a WWII veteran and we were raised with an appreciation for the veterans.  My dad was very involved his entire life with veterans issues.  He served as the state commander of the American Legion the year I was born and was very involved in that organization.  He served as the chairman of the Veterans Affairs Commission for the state of Louisiana for years -- and oddly enough, he received a letter on the day of his funeral from the new governor at that time thanking him for his service but that he would be replacing him.  He used to lobby (I guess) in Washington DC once a year on behalf of veterans.  I remember going with him one year (I was probably around 12) and tagging along as he visited with all the senators and representatives from Louisiana.  It was quite an experience seeing how our government worked up close.  We had so many family friends who were veterans.  I remember a few of the WWI veterans and many WWII veterans and then the Korean War vets were considered the young ones when I was a little girl.  My brother served in the Navy in Vietnam, but never really spoke much of the war and still doesn't.  I know this is because it was considered shameful by so many to have been in that "unpopular war."  Like any war is ever popular.

God bless our veterans.

It is a meaningful day to Americans.  My grandpa was in the Spanish-American War, my dad served between WW1 and WW2.  My two brothers were in WW2, my two sister-in-laws were in WW2, and my DH was in between Korea and Vietnam.  Now our grandson will be graduating college in Dec, and will start Officer's training in January.  Veteran's Day is really celebrated in our local schools.  God Bless America!!! So thanks for bringing this to our attention.  :D JF
