The benefits of Cranberries

Post by wendysgoodnews »

I have never been real fond of cranberries I was looking for a recipe that would add to the flavor so I can use up the packages I bought on sale.  I came across this article on the benefits of eating cranberries so I guess I will work on liking them through this season while they are available.
I ended up using half a bag in the Very Berry pie and they are wonderful with raspberry, cherry flavor.

The main problem with cranberries is that they are so very tart, many people feel they have to add sugar.  I guess we need to experiment with stevia and even honey would be better than sugar.  Anyone try making cranberry sauce with stevia?

You really don't need either one. Add a can of well drained pineapple. That does it for me. I also use one box of suger free cherry jello, a little fine chopped celery and your good to go. Chill until it gets firm.

The pineapple sounds good. My mother-in-law uses oranges.

I used Splenda, OJ, Cinnamon and a little Nutmeg for Thanksgiving in mine and it was wonderful.

I mix it with water like it says and add the other stuff and let it chill. I know we aren't supposed to have nuts but for a once in a while it is really good with chopped pecans added too. For thanksgiving that's how I DO IT.  VERY GOOD.

These all sound really good.  I used splenda to sweeten the pie I made today.

I love cranberries anyway you fix them.  I bought 10 packages to freeze.  I like them in my smoothies.    I fixed mine with splenda.  I think truvia which is stevia would work just fine.  I plan to try it.  :D  JF

I like to make cranberry relish. I take a bag of cranberries and a whole orange (including the peel) and grind them in a meat grinder. I add enough splenda to sweeten (usually 1/2 cup) and mix and store overnight in frig. Nothing to cook and very easy to make.

Wither -- the can of pineapple sounds like a plan!  Thanks for that info.  I'm staying away from the artificial sweetners, though.  I'll see how the stevia works.
