Hi all. I have been on the LDL diet since November 17, 2005. I have lost 12 pounds even though I have had many stops and starts.

I do not particularly like red meat, but since starting the LDL diet I have searched for different types of protein. I have to say I am sick of chicken. I ran into a product I decided to try called Maverick Ranch Natural Buffalo. This product is raised "Natural", no growth hormones administered and is never fed animal byproducts.

I have tried the sirloin steak. It is WONDERFUL. It tastes like a filet Mignon to me. The steak can be grilled, broiled or pan seared. I cook my steak to a doneness of medium rare. They are tender and flavorful with no "wild meat taste" at all.

Per the nutritional facts, the steak has: total fat- 1gm; Saturated fat- 0gm; Cholesterol- 35mg; Sodium- 55mg; Iron- 40%; Niacin- 20%; Vit. B12- 50%; Zinc- 20% per 112 gms or 4 oz serving raw. 100 gms of raw skinless chicken breast compares at: Total fat- 1gm; Saturated fat- 0gm; Cholesterol- 58gm; Sodium- 65mg; Iron- 4%; others less than 1% per the nutritiondata.com website.

For anyone looking for a red meat alternative, I would encourage them to give it a try. Check out their website at: www.maverickranch.com or call them at 800-497-2624 for information.

You can buy some ground beef that is about as lean as chicken or turkey.  I found some ground beef that was 98% lean.  That's pretty good.
