dry kidney beans!
I am looking for dry kidney beans in the 25 pound bag. I just can't seem to find any on line that are not so pricey and the shipping is not out of sight. I have been busy filling up my bean cans for the winter . when the weather goes below 25o I can't go out so I buy my beans and other staples so Kris my daughter doesn't have to get them for me. I don't know why kidney beans are so hard to find. Thanks for your help.

Re: dry kidney beans!
they used to sell 25# bags of red beans at Costco but couldn't find them any longer when I looked in Nov of last year. They still sell pinto beans in the large bags though. I also went to Amazon and looked but it was very expensive. I just watch for sales and buy bags and bags and then put them in a large bucket.

Thanks Wendy, I guess thats what I will have to do. We don"t have a costco anywhere near us. Nor do we have a sams club. And like you say Amazon is very expensive much more than I can afford. Judie

Sam's has dry kidney beans in our area, because red beans and rice are a Cajun dish eaten weekly, by some people. I don't know if they have them everywhere like that.

Re: dry kidney beans!
Hi everyone,
I found dry red kidney beans at Bob's Red Mill store on line. The price is reasonable. For 25 pounds they are a little more than a a dollar a pound. BUT the shipping of course is a little pricey. I ordered them as this was the best price I could find. I ordered them yesterday and they were shipped already. Can't wait till they come. I love kidney beans. Hope this helps.

I LOVE beans too! I am head cook at our local meals on wheels...and on Monday we are having a new addition to our menu....Hearty Bean and Vegetable Soup...I wanted to give my people something that I have been eating for months now....I have been saving all of the leftover veggies and all of the donated beans to make a wonderful soup for them. I hope it goes over well. I guess it doesn't matter what beans you use, just use beans!

Re: dry kidney beans!
Lisa,
When I make LDL Taco soup, I add a variety of beans. It makes it very colorful and everyone loves it even if they have never tasted the beans I put in it before.
Here is my version:
TACO SOUP
1 lb. ground turkey or lowest fat ground beef
2 med. onions - chopped
1 pkg. dry taco seasoning mix (No MSG)
1 pkg dry ranch dressing (optional)
In skillet, combine the above ingredients. Cook and brown meat, stirring frequently. Add all of the following ingredients - DO NOT DRAIN ANYTHING
1 - 15 oz. can pinto beans
1 - 15 oz. can black beans
1 or 2 cans Chick Peas
1 can Navy or Great Northern or Cannelli Beans
1 - 11 oz. can vacuum packed corn niblets
1 - 15 oz. can diced tomatoes
1 – can mild Rotel Tomatoes and Green Chiles
1 qt Beef Broth (without MSG)
Several chopped seeded Jalepenos
Chopped red, yellow, orange peppers for color and taste
Bring to a boil and lower heat to keep low boil. Cook about 15-20 minutes - stirring often.

Hi Linda1
Boy this soup sounds so good. I am not happy if I don't have soup each day. I haven't been having bean soups because my fridge was dying and did not keep it cold enough to be safe to eat. Last thursday my son-in-law told me to go pick out any fridge I wanted from sears up to 1200 dollars and he would pay for it.
Wow what a difference. I did not realize how warm my fridge was. G-d bless that man. I have cold soup now.

Judie,
What a blessing to have appliances that work!
Some days I am so thankful for running water.
Having the water off to repair busted lines really makes you thankful to be able to clean again!
