Re: type 2 diabetics
Good morning!
Yesterday while searching through the stacks at my local Half Price Books, on the bottom row of Weight Watchers cookbooks I saw a thin blue book tucked away. I wondered what kind of cookbook would be that thin. I pulled it out and started reading "Let's Do Lunch". I must have read half the book sitting on the footstool. I bought it, brought it home and devoured it. Since I'm a type II diabetic, I was concerned about all the fruit. After reading through this tread, I'm convinced to give it a try. Since some of the posts are over a year old, I'm just wondering how everyone is still doing. A status report would be most helpful, along with anything else you've learned along the way.
Thanking you all in advance, God bless,
John

Re: type 2 diabetics
Hey John;
Glad you're here!
I am not a diabetic; but I was headed that way. My 4 grandparents, 2 parents, 3 paternal-uncles and one sibling are all/were all diabetics.
Before "Let's Do Lunch"tm my blood sugar readings were running between 130- 160. Now they run around 80-99.
I have lost 56# so far.
I really enjoy the food I eat. And when I remember eating something pleasurable like doughnuts or something and decide to eat them again, I find they don't hold the appeal they once did.
Keep researching, asking questions; and I hope you are blessed with increased good health!

Re: type 2 diabetics
hi john....here's what i have to say...THIS REALLY WORKS.....you can eat GREAT, not feel like you're on a diet, control your blood sugars AND lose weight............you'll notice that i put everything in order of importance leaving the weight loss til last....i wasn't even looking for a diet or a way to lose weight...i had given up even trying...i was just going to stay the way i was.....that was 45 pounds ago and i haven't been this thin in 20 years..i just saw someone tonight who i haven't seen in a few months who told me i look thinner and younger and GREAT........AND that's how i feel....
i'm not a diabetic...but, i have it in my family and had the worst eating habits...that combo SHOULD have made me diabetic.....THE BEAUTY of let's do lunch for a diabetic is that YOU will eat EXACTLY the same as i will, you'll get the same benefits i will AND you'll control your diabetes to boot........WHAT can be better?.....nothing on THIS planet.....
so, take it seriously...IT WORKS....there are LOADS of recipes....the handful of recipes that i've posted are mostly foods i grew up on...greek food is VERY conducive to let's do lunch...my mother used to GIVE UP the bean soups as fattening when she used to diet......i can make homemade bean soups and eat ALL i want AND lose all the weight i want to lose?..................you've heard of lifetime weight watcher members?............i'm a lifetime let's do luncher........
welcome to our boards.......questions?......concerns?.......bring em here.....let us help you....that's why we're here.......sincerely,niki

nj..were those fasting blood sugars that were that high?.....because i'll tell you something, by my definition, if those were fasting blood sugars, you would be considered a borderline type 2 diabetic......and NOW they're 80-100?.......perfect............niki

Re: type 2 diabetics
Yes, niki, they were taken just before meals. But I cannot claim to have diabetes because I was never officially diagnosed with it.
The doctor I had when I started LDL just said I was 'headed toward' diabetes. After she quit her practice to stay at home with her 3 teenagers, I started seeing a naturalistic healthcare provider. She was the one who got my attention. She suggested that I buy a blood sugar monitor and test my blood before each meal and before bedtime. That's when I learned how much danger I was in and got more serious about LDL.

Re: type 2 diabetics
actually, nj, you can really consider yourself a borderline type 2 diabetic....you don't know HOW many patients i've had who have said "i'm NOT a diabetic" and i can SEE that they're on medication for diabetes AND their blood sugars are CONSISTENTLY elevated...i don't know WHY doctors do that...they seem reluctant to say the word"diabetes"....i've had patients even say to me "i have elevated blood sugars, but i'm not a diabetic".......
there are people that have elevated blood sugars and are even on medication for diabetes and when they lose weight their blood sugars are normal..and i don't even mean that they necesarily lost it on let's do lunch....their bodies can't handle the increased needs of the extra weight............once they lose the weight, their blood sugars are controlled by diet...THOSE people are STILL diabetics.....now, someone who loses the weight and then can eat ANYTHING they want and their blood sugars are fine.....i WOULDN'T say THAT person was a diabetic...........
so add a feather to your cap for nipping diabetes in the bud by losing weight and eating the wonderful let's do lunch way........

Re: type 2 diabetics
John,
WELCOME TO Let's Do Lunchtm!!! Just prior to me starting LDL my doctor prescribed a glucose tolerance test for me. I had to eat certain things for three (3) days prior to the test...and then fast for 12 hours before starting the test. On the first blood draw, my glucose reading (after 12 hours of fasting mind you) was 157. NOT GOOD! The guidelines they have set up at that lab say they must NOT be higher than 152 to continue the test. So, they cancelled the test and sent me home.
At my next visit, when they checked my sugar reading, it was above normal. So, with all the signs and symptoms, they diagnosed me as a type 2 diabetic. I had heard about LDL and had been investigating what it consisted of eating and had already made up my mind and with the little knowledger I had, we tried it for three days on our vacation just prior to these doctor visits. Hubby and I both felt better in just those three days. Circumstances prevented us from continuing on at that point. But, we had already made up our minds that when we got back home we were going to start LDL...
That was 14 months ago, and 47 pounds ago. Now glucose readings run around the 98-105 area. A1C's are at 6 and those are also good numbers. Doctor who didn't understand LDL when I was trying to explain it to him is now in favor of it. He has seen what has happened to my nunbers. Check my post in medical success stories re: triglycerides lowered. In March those are scheduled to be checked again. Fantastic results were obtained in 30 days!
The fruit doesn't elevate my sugars. I am very careful atr the moment to NOT eat many oranges or bananas as I know they are high on the Glycemic Index. I find that I really don't miss them either. There are so many other fruits that I like so much better anyway!
Keep asking questions. Keep reading posts. Keep trying recipes. You will find that LDL really works!!! It is the best thing I have found to help keep you healthy!

Hi all...
I do not know why I never noticed this thread before!!! And even though it's been dormant for a while...it's time to REVIVE it!!!
I am a type II Diabetic....have been for a long time....10+ years and since starting LDL on Sept.22nd this year...I have lost 22 pounds and my blood sugar has NEVER been better.... My readings have gone from 150-175 first thing in the morning to 90-115 in the morning...and at 5pm when getting home from work...it's been as low as 86, which is amazing!!
LDL is the best thing that has happened to me...the lifestyle change...eating the LDL way...I feel better, sleep better, and have been taken off one of my diabetes meds already. My next doc visit in early March, with complete bloodwork 2 weeks before the appointment, is going to blow my doc's mind!! I have been such a naughty patient...not taking very good care of myself for forever. I also have neuropathy and was shocked...had no clue what that is...and now I do...the hard way. I am taking my meds faithfully, and I am blessed that it's not too terribly bad. I know it can't be reversed, but progression can be stopped, and I'm praying that will be the case for me.
I had pretty much decided that because I was 56...loosing weight, etc. is just about impossible...but with LDL, it's not...stay true to LDL, and it just happens! Cant say enough good things about it!
Praising God for LDL,
Doreen

Re: type 2 diabetics
What a blessing, Doreen! I'm so happy to hear about your lower numbers. Isn't LDL wonderful? You hear all these horror stories about the diabetes epidemic that is rampant in the USA (and probably around the world, too) and you have to think about all the sugar added to everything....fast food, baked goods, packaged goods, etc. It's not surprising that its finally having an impact on people's bodies. But it seems that LDL can deliver people from much of the diabetic cycle of disease. Praise God!!

Thank you Roger & Pat...
I just hope and pray that even if only one person is inspired and encouraged by my story, they will make the decision to try LDL.
My blood sugar today at noon was 82...I can hardly believe it...I owe it all to the BEANS over the past few days, been eating plenty and feeling full!
Love in His Name,
Doreen

marie.....diabetics lose weight with more difficulty...plus, you have an underactive thyroid like i do...........i lost an average of 4 pounds a month on let's do lunch....but, there were 2 months 2 different times that i lost nothing...then, i would get up one day and feel thin and find that i'd lost 5 pounds....i see that you eat a lot of beans

Marie & I both hit the tacos pretty hard... maybe that's why we haven't lost weight!
I had to cut out the daily corn thins 'cause I could tell I was gaining. Marie & her hubby both play golf though, so they are getting good exercise, which I'm not. Niki, do you do anything for regular exercise above what you get in your daily job?
