Could I be the only person in the world that LDL doesn't work on?

I know we're not supposed to weigh but once a month but in the beginning you just need some sort of confirmation that what you are doing is really going to work this time. I have been on EVERY diet plan on the planet and have always lost 4 and 5 pounds at first and then a steady 1 to 2 pounds a week. (Of course, like most of us eventually the weight came back and here we are).

I have been on LDL for over two weeks. I did weigh myself a couple times a week. The scale did not go up or down ONE OUNCE in all that time.  Usually a person is up or down a few ounces or pounds depending on water weight, time of day, how the moon is aligned, etc. NOPE NOTHING. I thought for sure my scale must be stuck or broken so I made my 7 year old get on the scale to see if her weight registered correctly since she had just got for her physical at the doctors office this week and I knew what she should weigh. Yup the scale calculated her weight correctly.
Well, finally this morning the scale dropped 2 whole pounds!  I was hoping for more but maybe it took that long for my metabolism to adjust or something....I am going to try not to weigh myself for a week and see if that 2 pound loss is real and if I start losing more.

I really thought if it were possible for someone to not lose on LDL it would be me... I guess I need to just have faith like you all have said and keep on keepin on.

I love the boards and am so glad to be here.  Thanks everyone!

Brenda

Hang in there Brenda!!!  Just remember, something that is kinda hard for me to accept, but I'm getting there..... THIS IS NOT A DIET!!!  I eat all of the time, everytime I feel a hunger pang I eat!  I am trying not to weigh, but I did sneak on the 2nd day and found a 4lb weight loss.  I also realized that all of that fruit and the water it contains was going right through me and I'm sure that is the reason my weight was down.

This morning I had a fruit smoothie for breakfast, it is almost 9:30 a.m. and I am starting to feel hungry.  I have some left over corn from yesterday so I'm headed to wam that up and chow down.

I know this plan is right for me and I believe it is right for you as well.  I understand that when you have children or picky eaters in the family it can be very hard to fix dinner for them and then not eat what they are having until the next day... but I am finding that to be a little easier each day.

Don't give up!!  We are all here to walk you through this.  I am by no means an expert, but I truly believe that God brought me here for a reason and I am here to stay.... or at least until they throw me out??????

You go girl!!

Roger,
Thanks for your explanation. It really does make sense. The first week, I was eating all the "legal" foods I could get my hands on. It seemed I was eating all day. At the beginning of week 3, I'm not eating as much as I was because I'm just not as hungry.  I will definitely be hanging in there because I do feel better and I love being able to eat all this fruit.  I actually had a craving for BEANS yesterday!  Now that's progress!

Thanks, Brenda

Hi Brenda,

Don't let the scale get in the way.  I don't ever get on the scale because it is misleading.  I've always gone by the fit of my clothes.  Having started LDL 3 weeks ago, I know I've lost weight but I just don't know how much.  My pants and my shirts are so much more loose on me now.  I am of Asian descent and used to eat rice with every meal.  Heck  I haven't had rice or bread since I started LDL and don't even crave it.  And I told myself the very first few days on LDL that even if the weight doesn't budge as quickly as I hope it would, I at least am eating better and smarter and loving it.  The first few days on LDL, I purposely ate a lot for lunch (Roger said so!) because I was afraid if I didn't I would be hungry by dinner and succumb to eating whatever to fill me up.  Well two weeks later I can hardly finish my lunch though I am still filling my plate as much as before.  Keep eating the LDL way and you'll feel better about yourself and you will start shedding the unwanted pounds.  Don't let the scale discourage you.  Keep on eating the LDL way!

Hi JEM,
Thanks for sharing your experience with LDL so far. I will try not to let the scale get me down. I was reading everyone's posts about their big losses in a short period of time and my clothes weren't feel any looser yet like you an others are saying, so I was getting worried. I knew I wasn't doing anything wrong so I felt my body was just not going to repond. I just needed to give it more time.  I'm very happy now with my 2 pound loss.
Like I said in one of my other replies, I do feel better and I am not having cravings for things I shouldn't eat so all that means I'm moving in the right direction.

Thanks again.

Brenda

HI Brenda,

I am so glad you asked for clarity. Asking questions allows us to continue and not to give up.

"Welcome, Welcome, Welcome!"  You will find this is a great place for guidance and support. I have only been on LDL for ---well it will be 2 wks tomorrow.  I understand completely about wanting to check in with the scale in the beginning to make sure all is going well. I did the same thing. I noticed that my clothes were not as loose as they were the first week. I just knew that something was up.

I started really, really looking at ALL the ingredients in the foods I was eating. I work a lot of hours and so I am always looking for short cuts. I bought Oscar Myer packaged shaved turkey and shaved chicken. I thought I was so lucky to have found them so I wouldn't have to be cooking all the time. I live alone and so it is sometimes difficult to buy and prepare the right portion sizes.

Anyway, I found that there was a lot of sodium in them and even though there was no sugar, there were nitrates.   Also the chicken broth had a lot of sodium. For me - that is a killer. Water retention shows up really quickly on me and I know our bodies are supposed to release it at some point but I wanted to help it along. So I made sure to make my own turkey and chicken so I know there is nothing added.

I don't know if this info will be helpful to you but I thought I would offer it just in case. I find that the beauty of the boards is that you may be writing to one person and the info resonates with someone else. I have learned so much from reading other people's posts, it is astounding.  *love*

So look for hidden ingredients and strive to eat as much fresh unprocessed foods as you can. Your body will love you for it and reward you with vibrant good health!    *love*

BTW, Basket lady is dead on. This is not a diet - it is a lifestyle.
Stick with it. We are all here for you as you have already seen.  So happy that you are feeling better now. Hope to hear more from you.

Hi Julie,
Thanks for your reply. This site is a great source of support and we all learn so much from each other.
I haven't eaten deli meats but all the canned tomatoes, salsa, and other canned items like have tons of sodium which could be one of my problems.  I put salsa in everything!

I think with more experience and experimentation as to what works for our own bodies, we can all be successfull.

Thanks again,
Brenda

Brenda, I've not received my book yet so there's a lot I don't know - I'm glad to hear that Roger created a "skinny" book. Have you tried to read some of the so called "diet books"? OMG!  I digress... What I wanted to share was that I've been using LDL since the 26th of May based on posts here. I had a conversation with myself last evening where I was trying to convince myself that I wanted something to eat *woot* but I couldn't think of anything I wanted. Try as I might I couldn't come up with a craving that needed to be addressed, I wasn't hungry and I didn't eat anything. You all have no weigh of knowing how unbelievable that is for me. Up until LDL, I didn't weight for cravings, although I constantly tried to satisfy them, I just ate all the time. Hang in there Brenda. I'm sure you'll find this lifestyle change will be good for you. God Bless, Eljayne :rose:

I agree completely Eljayne,

The appetite is just not there. Even when I am hungry (which I usually decide by looking at the clock  :D ) , it's like a vague little nudge rather than the raging lion roaring "Feed Me!"  And I am satisfied with so much less than before. It is unbelievable - it is a miracle!

Glad we are here together *love*

Hi Brenda,
I'm new to the site as well. I just started week 2 w/o the book! I'm waiting for it to come and can't wait for it to get here. I think the one thing we all need is a little patience. It would be nice if we could all pop a magic pill and..."POOF" we're thin! I need to lose at least 60 lbs...if I had it my way it would be 75 lbs., and my doctor would be happy w/50 lbs. But just being on LDL this past week, I feel so much better. Is it possible to feel this good in a week? Although you had no weight loss, did you feel differently in some other way?  There are so many inspiring success stories here that you just have to feel, in time, you too will be racking up those points, or should I say, deleting those pounds.  I know from many years of dieting, I will lose weight, stall, and it'll be a little while b/f it starts again. My saving grace here is that there are so many delicious foods and most of them can be prepared rather quickly. And the message boards are terrific. I had been on three different diets over the past few years, signed up on the sites hoping for some support from others like me. I'd post and days and days would go by w/no response. And some of the meals that are offered were for foods I couldn't find anywhere in my local grocery stores. Here I didn't have to even buy much my first week. I had fruit, vegys and bags and cans of beans! I just didn't know what to do w/them! LOL. I've made, lentil soup and yesterday I made the pizza soup. It's delicious! Except...I have to keep it away from my husband - he loves it (and he doesn't need to lose a pound!).

So keep the faith ... and hide the scale! Look for those other little successes each week like you're not as hungry, or not so tired. The pounds will follow.

Good luck and much success!

GibbsB,

Congratulations on losing 2 pounds - no matter how long it took.  That is equivalent to two sticks of butter.

Beth, don't let the numbers on the scale derail you from the train to skinnytown, are you starting to feel better, more energy, keep on keeping on, and try not to step on the scale for a month, in fact, give the scale to your daughter to be the guard of, she will love helping you and being part of your journey.  God bless your journey *hug*

Nope...it's the equivalent of EIGHT sticks...four sticks in a pound.  Next time you're in the store, pull out a two pound bag of anything, lug that around in your hands, and think of how nice it is to be rid of it.

You feel better, you are enjoying the foods you're eating and you know you're on the right track.  THAT'S what's important.

Something no one else has responded to is the fact that you're WAAYYY closer to your goal than most of us.  If you've got 50 or 100 or 150 pounds to lose like many people here, then the weight WILL start to come off quickly.  When you've got a little over 20, it's going to be a slower process.  I had lost almost 20, and when I went back home this past weekend, my mom and sister didn't notice...it's a much smaller percentage on someone who's over 200 pounds to begin with.

Anyone who has lost a bunch of weight will tell you the hardest part is the LAST batch you want to be rid of.

I'm not saying that to discourage you....you're right on track...eating good food, enjoying your meals, feeling good about what you're doing, and you will lose the weight you want.  You're just not being fair to yourself when you want to compare your initial results with much, much heavier people.

Keep it up and enjoy that fruit!!

Brenda,
I felt the same way when I first started. I thought if anyone could fail at this it would be me! I stuck it out and am almost at the one month mark and I feel great! I love losing weight but I like my close being really loose allot better! I try not to dwell on what the scale says but what my clothes tell me. Also I love to celebrate with everyone who has lost a whole lot of weight and remember that everyone is different. You will lose at a different rate than others because God created us all to be different! You can do this and if you stick to the plan you will lose weight! Just hang in there!! :D

I meant 8 sticks of butter.  I guess I was thinking about two pounds.  That's for noticing.
