I don't know if any of you know this, but for every one pound you lose you take 10 pounds of pressure off your knees. I have major arthritis and I can already tell a difference. Hope this encourages someone to keep going.

Wow! I didn't know that. I have pain in my knees, but I think it is from all the varicose veins wrapped around them. Do you think weight loss will decrease the veins? Probably a silly question, but varicose veins make my knees and legs so achy

Debra thanks for reminding me of that. Learned that during my old WW days. Have noticed that I don't have the knee pain now.

It's funny that I saw this today. I just wrote a post with some interesting facts about the foods we can eat and their medical benefits ( all LDL approved). But I also read this and hope it is helpful:
- losing 11 lbs will feel like a loss of 40 lbs to your knees bc of weight distribution
- walking barefoot delivers 12% less impact on your knees than when you walk in shoes
- oranges, grapefruit, kiwi and other C rich foods, slows the progression of Osteoarthritis (OA), can rebuild cartilage and can cut your risk of getting it by 50%
- leafy dark greens (Vit K) helps build and repair joint tissue.

I have also noticed some decrease in the arthritis pain I have in my knees. Another problem that has plagued me when I've been at my peak weight is plantar fasciitis -- an inflamation of the ligament that runs along the bottom of the foot and is EXCRUCIATINGLY painful. It has completely disappeared and I am able to use the treadmill again, as well as take advantage of the wonderful urban park trail system we have in our city! THANKS, LDL!!!

Julie - you are not a geek! But, you post such good information. It was great news to hear how much weight loss affects our joints. I have a bad right knee, so I guess I had better get to eating those vitamin C rich foods!!!

I hope your find some relief for your knee really soon. What's wrong with it? I also mentioned in another post about how high acidic foods can also cause inflammation and make our joints etc painful. For relief, we can either cut down on the acidic foods or amp up the alkaline foods. Lucky for us that LDL is made up of mostly alkaline foods. I believe this is one of the reasons everyone experiences such well being on the plan. Here I go again

I'm shutting up now.
