My puppy Maddison

Hi Yall,
I am asking for prayers for my puppy Maddison. She has been getting sick over the last couple of weeks on a daily basis. I chalked it up at first to the two fires we had in my apt. complex during that time but it's more than that. Last night she threw up six times and ended up in the veterinary ER. Today she is at my regular vet having some tests run.

I know she's not a person, but she's my baby. Please pray they find the problem quickly and that she doesn't have to suffer. Thank you all.

Thank you kris.
Maddison is at the vets right now. She has pancreatitis. They are going to keep her off food and water for three days. She's on IV fluids. In three days they are going to feed her and see if she can keep it down. If she does then she can come home. If she doesn't they are going to do a barium test and possible surgery. I'm believing for her total healing, but it's so hard to be home without her. She was so sad today when I went to visit. She didn't understand why I had to leave her.
I almost went off plan today, but I realized that food won't fix this. I also realized that staying on track with LDL is the most loving thing I can do for myself, and I have to be healthy to take care of her.

LP,
What is her normal diet?

I know folks who feed their critters sort of an "LDL" for animals.
B.A.R.F. - Bones And Raw Food
I wonder if it would help with pancreatitis?

kris, she eats only pedigree puppy food and mother hubbard peanut butter dog treats. She occassionally gets boiled chicken but that is rare.
Enjae, I'm not sure. I've got to call the doctor this morning and get an update on her condition. He seems to think she may have gotten into the trash (which I don't know how she would have done since I keep the trashcan in the lil laundry room with the door closed) or that she's gotten into some kind of chemical. She's only 8 months old so she's very young for all of this.
I'm going to talk to him about her diet as soon as I can. I've done some reading online about pancreatitis in dogs. Man, sometimes the internet can scare you half to death.
Thank you for your reply and concern. It means alot. *HUGS* I'll post more as soon as I know something.

Poor Princess and Maddison! I understand. We had a kitty who for no reason got dehydrated, started not eating and ended up w/ kidney failure. We had to have her put to sleep cuz there was a slim to none chance she'd get better w/ treatment (and it was too expensive). Prayers!

little princess,
We had a scare big time with our chihuahua. She was spitting up a little at a time and then had a seizure. We rushed her to vet and he said he thought she must have gotten into mice poisen but I never had any for that reason. It turns out it was febreeze spray that almost killed her. I never had that stuff around again. A friend of ours said her daughter uses febreeze all the time very heavily. Do you know what happened? Her daughter came down with bad seizures. I told her about the spray but haven't heard from her since. Seems funny doesn't it. Just a word for thought.

Hey Y'all,
Just wanted to report that Maddison is on the mend! Praise God. My regular vet got back into town and I had her into him day before yesterday. After XRays to eliminate blockage, a parvo test (negative), test for hook worms and test for whip worms (also all negative) he determined that she does not have pancreatitis but she has gastrointeritis. I said..."Okay what is that?" He says, "Basically she has a delicate disposition" LOL Sooooooo, she's been on meds to calm her tummy and kill the bacteria. Today she ate for the first time and kept it down. She is also drinking again and resting at night. Thank you all for all of your prayers for her. She is my baby and all I have in this world.
Mary you are sooooooo funny! LOL No she hasn't been drinking. Stealing shrimp from the fridge....THAT she did! Fast as greased lightening she is!
Anyway, Hugs to you all and thank you again for the prayers! I love you guys.

Oh LP! That is so much better! Just find a type of food for her sensitive stomach to tolerate and stick with it. Watch that she doesn't get people food (like shrimp; haha) and watch her grow!
Love you, Girl. I am SO glad that Maddison is better!
(Taking Bo to the vet for a blood test today; turns out we were giving him the wrong dosage for heartworm prevention. Ugh!)

(By the way, Bo is 'Reo's 'cousin'. He is a red/blue heeler mix that my younger brother raised in Florida. When my older brother bought this house with such a large, fenced yard we inherited Bo.)

LP - I'm SO very glad to hear this! When I read your post last night, I went online and was reading - searching - and reading some more. I thought I'd responded.... Weird, sometimes the meds that I take seem to work really well to keep me focused, and other times they work so well that if I get distracted, then I get focused on another thing, and the original task is forgotten... (yes, I am A.D.D.).

Anyway, I'm very glad that it isn't pancreatitis. I, too, read all that stuff about it...... As Enjae said, there are all kinds of food out there for sensitive tummys - even at Walmart! Still, I'll remember little Madison when I give thanks.
Love,
Carolyn

Hi Lp
I am so glad Maddison is on the mend! Our Daisy also has a very delicate stomache. Purina dog food is only kind tolerated.......and when she gets a bad spell we go to boiled hamburger and rice. She will be having her yearly surgery on monday to remove skin growths.
Kiss Maddison and enjoy your weekend
Happy Mother's Day to all
Kris

I'm late to add my two cents here, but about three years ago our girl got really sick, too. Her diet is Iams and Milk-Bone treats. We had decided to save some money and switch to Ol'Roy biscuits instead of her Milkbones. It nearly cost us her life. NEVER AGAIN!

Hi everyone,
Wow! I was surprised when I got back and read all of your replies. Thank you so much.
I've got some news on both of us. Unfortunately, Maddison is still struggling. After she had a great week she began having symptoms again. Now several weeks and over $800.00 later they still are not sure what the problem is. We have taken her completely off of all dog food and treats. I am boiling white rice and white skinless boneless chicken for her. Her appetite has returned and her energy levels are beginning to come up so that is good news.
My news is that I'm off plan again. I think I need to gain control of my emotions. I seem to be eating out of stress and worry. That plan isn't helping me or her. I know God is holding on to me though cause I don't want to hide this time. I want to reach out and get back on track. I'm so sorry I haven't been on the boards. I am still here though and still believing I will make it.
Thank you all for your kind words, loving support and especially all the prayers for Maddison. *S*

Niki is absolutely right, LP! Sometimes it helps to get BACK on track just by reading and posting on the boards.
Our puppies - they certainly keep us on our toes, don't they? I hope that this will be the final turning point for Madison and that she will be healthy from now on.
Hugs to you, my friend... Carolyn

Hey Little Princess!
i'm praying for your puppy. She looks just like my dog when i was a kid...Buttercup. She was adorable...has the same sweet face and color as your baby...After Buttercup passed away, i just didn't have it in me to love another creature like that.
I can relate to your emotional eating...i'm really wondering why i went off LDL ..when was that? Easter, i think...yes...i wonder why i did that? Anyway, everyone is right when they say that it helps to come here and read and even post especially at the times when we're feeling weak, or tempted or stressed out!
i'll keep Maddison on my prayer list...
God bless
margo

welcome back LP!! Yes we'll keep praying that Maddison pup will finally be on the mend but just as importantly, we will be praying that you are able to get on track and do the right things for you! YOU are important to your Puppy. YOU need to be able to take care of her. YOU are important to us! YOU can't do anything to help her if you aren't taking care of YOU!!! (notice something here? YOU are the center of it all and YOU are worth it! We all are!!)
