The General's Diagnosis

Hi all...

i know that some were waiting to see what the doctor said about my hubby who was suffering from loose stools several times a day and an uneasy feeling in his tummy.  The doctor thinks it is irritable bowel.  I know that there is a post somewhere with that but i can't find it now...so i started this new thread.  I remember someone suggested this?  Carol? Debbie? or was it RVeronica?

He started taking some medication yesterday evening and before he went to bed...and presto chango, voila....two lovely solid one piece productions early this morning!!  We were very proud of them as we stood there checking them out (almost like a little kid who discovers how to make potty on their own!!).  My husband is very happy (and when THe General is happy, so am i  -- usually  ;))....

God bless!

Praise God!

Be sure and educate the General about how his food choices affect IBS.

Morning guys...

Well The General is feeling better but still having "symptoms"....Dr. had ordered some stool tests for three consecutive days -- so i'm having to take samples and put in little vials and shake shake shake and some goes in fridge!!  ???and each day he has to walk them back to the lab....

(now, as an aside...and as a testimony....Our Dear Lord made our lives significantly easier because the lab we have to use for insurance purposes only had two offices both abput 1/2 hour driving distance from us...and as we see he had to go pick up the plastic containers and instructions and then go back three times to take the samples in on three consecutive days -- Our Wonderful God made the lab company open up a new office just an 8 minute walk from our home this past Wednesday!!! -- That means that The General doesn't need me to drive him. This is such a crazy week for me that driving back and forth three days in a row as chauffer would have just made my week a bit nuttier!  God takes care of eeeeeeevvvverything....even what to some may be small details!)

Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!

My friend Laurie was here for lunch recently and couldn't eat anything I had prepared because she was having an IBS episode. I was interested, so she gave me a crash course>  She cannot eat anything that we generaly recognize as promoting regularity and heart health:  No fruits or veg; no spices, no liquid dairy, nothing with fiber; nothing with roughage, no matter how bland, especially corn.  That's what triggered her episode.  She must eat only non-LDL foods >  bland simple carbs (meaning white rice, pasta, wheat flour, white sugars), cheese, meat.  There must be other things she can eat, but we didn't cover those.

I reheated some of Neil's leftover cheese pizza in the toaster over for her!  She had that with a room-temp non-diet Sprite.    :poo:*lipssealed*

Sending prayers The General is NOT diagnosed with IBS.  That would have to be an LDL'ers nightmare.

It think it all depends on the person. I do have IBS, (most people in my family have it), but I have found many LDL acceptable things that I *can* eat. Beans, believe it or not, even though they are not my favorite. Bananas, pineapple, (full of fiber), soup (even with veggies), and corn. I can even have dairy, in small amounts.

One thing I did find that was very helpful was taking a fiber supplement (Benefiber) each day. It regulates things to a normal pattern, and as long as I avoid fried, oily, (butter, vegetable oil, etc.) or acidic foods, I do quite well. I can even have spices! Yay! I do still have to avoid things like cabbage and lettuce, but can have fresh spinach salads with no problems.

After having my gallbladder removed, I had to adjust a bit due to lack of bile to break things down, but the Benefiber has truly been my saving grace!

Now if I skip the daily fiber supplements, I am a mess, and can't eat anything other than empty carbs like breads and pastas. (just like your friend)  My doctor is the one that told me about how fiber can relieve the majority of symptoms, and he was right. Maybe this might help your friend too, Gwen.

Thanks for bringing this topic up to the fore again.

Oh yes...he was diagnosed with IBS...

I'm glad to have a chance to let you all know that, thank God, THe General is all better!  He's not having any symptoms at all now.  I think he was getting too much oil on his popcorn.  I have been feeding him differently though.  He takes crusty white breads (not whole grain breads because the seeds have too much oil)...he eat bananas each day -- usually two.  He does not eat (and has no desire for) lettuce although i reintroduced cucumbers recently when he started to complain that his bowel movement was a little hardish.  He is taking some yoghurt but no milk.  He has popcorn only with butter spray unless his bowel movement is hard, in which case i add just a few spritzes of olive oil.  He eats apples but without the skin.  He's not eating so much fruit.  He's very happy and feels quite relieved that his symptoms have disappeared.  I'll keep him on this eating routine so that he doesn't have a flare up.

Thanks for all your help when he was suffering.

God bless!

margo, is the general thin or is he overweight?.........if he could get rid of the italian bread, he could lose some weight..........i think you told me that he was eating beans with you last year(ESPECIALLY since he is the sorter of the beans)but i remember your saying he was disappointed that he hadn't lost as much weight as he had hoped........
isn't that something that even the oil on popcorn gave him a problem......i'll bet that now that everything's under control, he could start to experiment a little to really know what he can get away with and what he absolutely can't eat........

Hi Niki...

i only started giving him the crusty white bread because i read on the Internet that it was good for those with IBS...Also, the dark brown rice is also very good for IBS people.  Just this morning we decided that when Ramadan is over, we'll both start LDL again but like at the start.  We'll try to cut out the rice, first of all...going back to Original LDL..Then we'll see how he does.

he's overweight...could lose 20 pounds 25 pounds or so....

thanks and God bless..

that's not a lot of weight to lose(for a man, especially)...i'm surprised he didn't lose that when you originally went on let's do lunch........ibs is interesting in that there's such a difference from one person to another as far as what they can and can't eat....
back to basics is a great idea....and if you need to cut out the rice, so be it....whatever works for you..........take care...niki
