I miss you all, but the reason for this message is 2 fold: Please keep a young 10 yr old softball player Hannah Powell in your prayers. She is facing a mastectomy due to stage 2 breast cancer (yes you read correctly her age and diagnosis!)2nd of all to bring this to everyone's attention. She may be the youngest ever diagnosed with this terrible disease. It started w/ an intense itching around the nipple area. When her mom told her to let her look at it of course the answer was No. I'll be OK. After a few weeks to a month or so, the itching turned to severe pain. Mom then told her to get in the bathroom and let her see what was happening. She found redness from the scratching but then noted a lump. Since 10 yr olds don't get breast cancer..the doctors did not remove the entire lump in her 1st surgery.
I want all of us w/ young girls to start telling them NOW of the things to look for...I had just recently talked to my 13 yr old (who's finally developed enough that I felt she needed to know) but now I know to talk to my 10 yr old and 7 yr old as well and to keep talking to them so they'll feel comfortable letting mom know if they find problems.
Thanks to all of you and I'll check in as I can.
If you want to know more about this young girl you can access her parent's website: ourlittlesweetpea.com
