10 yr old girl w/ Stage 2 Breast Cancer

Hi all...I am again w/o computer so not on boards often...only when can run by mom's and use hers  :'( I miss you all, but the reason for this message is 2 fold: Please keep a young 10 yr old softball player Hannah Powell in your prayers. She is facing a mastectomy due to stage 2 breast cancer (yes you read correctly her age and diagnosis!)
2nd of all to bring this to everyone's attention. She may be the youngest ever diagnosed with this terrible disease. It started w/ an intense itching around the nipple area. When her mom told her to let her look at it of course the answer was No. I'll be OK. After a few weeks to a month or so, the itching turned to severe pain. Mom then told her to get in the bathroom and let her see what was happening. She found redness from the scratching but then noted a lump. Since 10 yr olds don't get breast cancer..the doctors did not remove the entire lump in her 1st surgery.

I want all of us w/ young girls to start telling them NOW of the things to look for...I had just recently talked to my 13 yr old (who's finally developed enough that I felt she needed to know) but now I know to talk to my 10 yr old and 7 yr old as well and to keep talking to them so they'll feel comfortable letting mom know if they find problems.
Thanks to all of you and I'll check in as I can.

Hi Veronica  *HUGS*  It's good to see you.  I just heard about this little girl today.  It's so incredibly sad to me.  I am praying for her as well.  You know, I am convinced that we are seeing cancer in younger and younger people every year because of all the GARBAGE in the American diet.  I lost my sister in 2004 to cancer and she was only 34 when she died.  Cancer stinks!  I'll continue to pray for Hannah and her family.

HI Veronica,

I just read your post and feel so terrible that such a young girl would have to go through this. Her story brought tears to my eyes.

It is devastating enough for those that are older but how do you make sense of this in a child?  I hope to hear that she is fully recovered after she goes through the process. I wonder if there was BC in the family that would make her high risk. I will keep her in my prayers. Makes you appreciate only having a few aches and pains.

Hope all is well with you,
Julie  :rose:

Hi all...quick update: Hannah Powell-Auslam has had her mastectomy, is going through Chemo and has discovered she has cancer in at least one lymphnode. I've heard she's handling it very well overall.

Just continue to keep her in your prayers.
Thanks
Veronica
