Re: Hot...Blueberry Pie for Breakfast....
I absolutely LOVE the pie recipes. Savannah you are a genius!
The second time I tried the recipe I used banana and fresh cherries. Nothing else. It tasted soooo good I decided to make another bowl of "pie" for myself. Well, by the time I finished off the second bowl, my stomach was so full and felt as though I had just eaten a very sweet and sugary "bad" dessert. I learned my lesson that you CAN have too much of a good thing!
BTY...my favorite is peach also.

OK, I have anew idea, but I'm too afraid to try it without all of your opinions because it sounds gross...What if you kept the banana, and instead of adding a frozen fruit, you added in some pumpkin smoothie? Do you think it would have a close resemblance to actual pumpkin pie filling? I'm partly thinking ahead to Thanksgiving, but I also think it might be pretty good...or really bad. What do you think?

It sounds interesting. I think you would need to add the correct spices for the pie. I hope it works.

It sounds good, Manda--not gross at all. The banana thickens the fresh fruit "pie" so you don't need cornstarch or whatever -- but don't forget you can thicken pumpkin with eggs or Egg Beaters. The banana might be a nice replacement for the milk normally called for in pumpkin pie recipes. Veronica puts mashed bananas on top of her baked butternut squash to simulate the marshmallow topping on sweet potatoes. There are several pumpkin ideas for Thanksgiving and Christmas already on the boards. I don't know if any of them contain banana, but I think it would be wonderful. Just go to the top of the recipe section and do a search for "pumpkin" or "pumpkin custard". If you do an advanced search and add the screen name "marysimmons" you will find all her special pumpkin recipes. She did some experimenting with all kinds of pumpkin and squash last fall. YumYumYum!

I thought I read that we were not supposed to eat cherries. Am I wrong? I'd love to have some cherries! :-)

Maybe you're thinking of maraschino cherries. They have high fructose corn syrup and are not what we eat on LDL. The good news is fresh bing cherries and rainier cherries are absolutely something we can eat all we want........also frozen cherries.aalwysl8 wrote:I thought I read that we were not supposed to eat cherries. Reading about this wonderful dish. I had some frozen mixed berries but when I read Kathie's post about the apple pie it got DH's attention. We had several meely red delicious apples to use up an some almost ripe bananas. I used Kathie's recipe and DH and I shared the bowl, ate till we were full, and had leftover's for supper. I only added nutmeg and cinnamon. No sweetner needed. You are right it really keeps you satisfied. Bless you all!

Actually the banana pumpkin thing sounds good--maybe baked in ramikins or some other individual baking container. I always left the pie crusts on my plate as a kid so this would be a winner for me.

Re: Hot...Blueberry Pie for Breakfast....
I didn't have any blueberries, but I tried this recipe with strawberries and then a couple hours later with an apple. The one with strawberries was pretty good, but the one with apple was yummy. I peeled and cut up my apples and used my Pampered Chef chopper to chop it into small pieces. It almost tasted like an apple pie pudding.
I'll get some frozen peaches and blueberries tomorrow. Can't wait to try that.

Re: Hot...Blueberry Pie for Breakfast....
OK I was really craving the hot pumpkin smoothie. Went to Health Food Center and looked for pumpkin puree since Wal-Mart has been out of it since before Christmas. The only canned pumpkin they had was the sweetened pie-ready stuff. Decided to get a couple cans. After a popcorn supper, I got a little hungry about 10pm so sliced up a banana and spooned about 1/3 of a can of the pumpkin pie mix over it. Then Nuked it....(I know, bad bad, but I am not completely comfortable with the turbo oven yet). Man that "crustless pumpkin pie" was good, filling, and hit the spot. Killed the craving for chocolate. I know the sugar in it may have adverse effect but it did taste good. Will let you know tomorrow if it messed up up the blood sugar or exacerbated cravings. For now I am full and very satisfied.

Terri,
I haven't tried to freeze it, but I think it's a great idea. I haven't bought ice cream in years because it is such a weakness for me. This might be my solution. Thanks for thinking of it.

Try it with sliced fresh apples over banana and sprinkle on some cinnamon. You wont even need sugar. Tastes just as yummy as the blueberry. We love both.

Welcome KWilliams
Linda is right you will love this way of eating. It will satisfy you and remove all your cravings. On this site there are hundreds of great recipes to take advantage of. Make sure and eat until you are full until all cravings are gone no matter how much you eat during the day and evening. Your body will adjust itself after about a week or so and then you will fill up enough at meals not to snack in between.
It really helps to look at others journals to see what they are eating every meal. If you want it would really help for you to do a journal for you and your husband so you can get help with what you are eating also it helps keep us accountable. Just think all this help and support all for free, this is a nice family to belong to and everyone loves to help. So ask lots of questions and I will be looking forward to hearing more about how you are doing.
Glad you got your book, remember to read the chapters 2 thru 6 alot so you get it all down how to do LDL. They suggest to read it 3 to 4 times and then scan it whenever you need to remind yourself of how to eat the right way.
