Tina,
I am thrilled to see topics from past discussions. Thank you for taking the time and the initative to find them. It is uplifting to read about subjects I have forgotten about that lead me to further bolster my appreciation for LDL.

Hello Roger,
I recently purchased fructose to use in recipes. I had a friend go NUTS telling me that this was awful to use. All I could tell her in my diet defense was that "that's what the recipe calls for." I'd like to have a better explanation for her. Can anyone give me one? Thank you in advance ;}
Still trying,
GardenGirl

Fructose causes our body to secrete insulin which is the "fat-storing hormone." Plus refined carbohydrates like fructose cause us to become very hungry within a short time. Neither of these results are what we want if our goal is to discard weight. Stay away from it! Many authorities believe that refined fructose is even worse for us than table sugar (which is only half fructose).

Thank you for your response. So what about using splenda, is that okay?

Splenda should be okay. Some "experts" believe that artificial sweeteners may still cause an insulin response just like sugars. Stevia is generally considered to have the least effect on our insulin levels. I use stevia, but some people are bothered by the taste. I avoid aspartame (Nutrisweet) like the plague as it is a suspect in many health problems. Very confusing, isn't it! Pam

I use quite a bit of splenda, maybe I should be cutting back on it's use. I enjoyed all the posts regarding the Post from Roger, very informative. I'm a diabetic and take insulin so need to watch the splenda intake.

Hi Carrole,
Like you I find all this about sweeteners very confusing. Many think fructose is OK because they say it is natural sugar from fruit??? Others say no way!
I use Splenda. Can't get stevia here in UK. Never ever touch aspartame. Very bad for you.
I think that true fruit gives us much sweetness as we would ever need or want.

You are right Julie, if we could just incorporate the whole real fruit into recipes, it would be best, that that isn't always feasible.
