Kiwi berries and kiwis

Post by crickadoodle »

A couple of weeks back Sam's had an item called "kiwi berries."  They were small kiwis that you ate whole, skin and all.  The skin wasn't fuzzy and they were delicious.  Just curious if anyone else saw these.  I loved them and got them twice, but then they no longer had them.

Well, I really liked eating them that way and kinda wanted more of that flavor, so I went over to the kiwis.  I tend to not buy them because I would peel them and frankly found that to be a lot of trouble.  On the container it said to cut in half and scoop the flesh out with a spoon.  Duh!  It is the easiest thing to do and I now will be getting kiwis way more often.

I'm sure most of you already knew this and won't find this helpful, but if I didn't know this I figure somebody else out there will realize there is a better way to eat kiwi.  I just ate a kiwi and it reminded me that I meant to post this a week ago.

Thanks
I also quit buying Kiwi because I got tired of peeling them.  When I first began LDL I bought them by the large containers at Costco.

Thanks Crick,
DH bought several kiwi about a month or so ago because he heard they were healthy. They sat in the fridg until I ended up throwing them out to the chickens. I had never eaten them except in a fruit mix. Now that I know how to fix & eat it I may try some. Thanks for posting, I didn't know>

Just a FYI.

The kiwifruit skin contains high amounts of dietary fiber. In a fully matured kiwifruit one study showed that this as much as tripled the fiber content of the fruit. In addition, as many of the vitamins are stored immediately under the skin, leaving the skin intact greatly increases the vitamin C consumed by eating a single piece of kiwifruit when compared to eating it peeled.

Thank you for posting that crickadoodle.  I also stopped buying them because it was too much to peel and too messy.  Never thought of cutting off and scooping. Duh.

Eating Kiwi by cutting off the top is so great.  Now why didn't I think of that.  I will eat them more often now.

Yes, yes, I love them that way. I scoop out everything close to the skin also so I get all the good out of it!
You made me hungry. I am going to have one now!

Halo, I'm surely eating many more kiwis these days, since I found out how easy it is to eat them.  The scoop method works so much better for me.  I just wasn't going to spend the time peeling them.  I usually fix two at a time to eat.

I'm glad I posted this, because I found out that I wasn't the only one who didn't know this easy way to eat the kiwi.  :D
