How's the weather where you are?

Post by barrypaxton »

Starting a new thread here. Just wondering how everyone is doing with this winter storm that's moving across the USA. I'm in SE Ohio and we've had a little rain, but that has stopped and it's just cloudy. The snow has melted off the ground and we aren't getting any new snow or ice (yet).

How's the weather where you are?

The bad local news now is the blizzard.  Here is our local forecast:  We received 4+" overnight.  We will get 2-4" today.  About 5pm it will change to ice and we will receive about 1/2" of ice, followed by winds up to 50mph and an additional 11" of snow.  Tomorrow we will be blessed with a final 2-4" of the white stuff.  It sounds like a nightmare.  The morning news showed pictures of empty grocery shelves as people went into a buying panic.  They are forecasting power outages and road closures.  We can only hope they are wrong, wrong, wrong!!!    Pam

In Montana we are below zero and have about 2 inches of snow.  It was so cold this morning that when I put puppy out to potty he cried because his feet got to cold immediately.
It is supposed to be even colder tomorrow and then start warming up by Thurs.

I live in Cassadaga, NY...in the snow belt.  If you don't know what that means, it means all winter long we get Lake Effect Snow caused from the winds blowing across Lake Erie.  Until the lake freezes over, (and it hasn't quite done that, believe it or not) we continue to get heavy snows.  This storm is just an added bonus that the rest of you get to share with us.  Snow banks are well over 6 ft high and you have to pull out into the street to see if you can go.  Tonight/tomorrow we are expecting at least a foot and probably more with cold, but not as cold as it has been.  Last week we set records for that, 25-30 below zero, air temp.  That wasn't even wind chill.  Not sure where we will put this new round of snow...driveways are full, and yup, I'm about done with winter.
Ok..I'm done complaining...some of you have it worse and it sure looks like alot of you have it better...Everyone stay safe and warm.

Well, guess we are not so bad then. Temp at 4:30pm is 13 with wind chill at -5. Got some snow and ice but sooooo windy blew the snow into drifts. Not too bad though (couple feet at the most). Nothing compared to what Lisa and Pam are reporting. I will go home and make me a pot of taco soup and be thankful it has passed over us now. Supposed to be nearly 50 Sat and Sunnday. Spring comes early to southern Oklahoma. I have seen trees budding around the 1st of March. I'm with you Lisa, bring on Spring. BTW congrats from me also.....your ticker lookin' good!

It reached 80 degrees in Tampa today and my sons headed for the beach. Too bad I had to work. Who knows, maybe tomorrow will be a better day.

My laser ablation was cancelled because of the ice in Columbus.  I  now go on the 22nd.  We are to get wind tonight.  It was 50* here today, and  I hope we don't get the ice.  Fla sounds great right now!!!   JF

Wanda- I'm sorry about your procedure being cancelled.  It is so emotional to gear yourself up for surgery; now the waiting starts again!  Pam

Well the big storm hit hard this morning and will continue for most of the day.  We had 4 inches drop yesterday and we're expecting 10 to 14 more inches today and another snowfall tomorrow morning.  It will be interesting to hear on Friday how many inches we have had for the week.  January here set a record for snowfall for the month -- 43 inches.  And our winter is not even half over!  Of course, all of our ski areas are loving it -- business is booming.

We received an additional 5" overnight, but is frozen, heavy stuff resulting from intermittent freezing rain.  There is a level 3 snow emergency until they can clear the roads.  No one is allowed on the roads unless it is an emergency.  Some roads are closed because they have drifted over.  We are getting all snow now and it looks like 3 more inches with continued blowing and drifting even after the snow is finished later today.
The good news- we have plenty of fruit and vegetables, and meat in the freezer.  I'm going to make spaghetti sauce and serve it over green beans.  Later we'll have some butternut squash fries.  it could be worse than being snowed in with my honey!  Pam

Pam, that can be very romantic. Fire in the fireplace, glass of wine, soft music and best of all your honey. How blessed and spoiled we are.  Enjoy!  *hug*   Wither
