Thanks Linda for the site.  Very interesting. I am going to see if Dr. Mercola has a web site.  Well I am starting back on my cholesterol meds. My total cholesterol jumped to 277 and my bad cholesterol doubled.  Also my thyroid was T4 was elevated so my meds will be upped.  I asked for the test 6 months ago but was told it was to soon to run, I knew something was not right with my Thyroid.  Kind of a depressing day.  Well tomorrow is another day so look to the bright side.  :pouty:

Just hold steady with eating all the unprocessed foods you can. It will be a while readjusting, but I believe you will have much better labs in 6 months. It may take a year or 2 to get off or really decrease your meds, but it will be sooo worth it. Hang in there. I am monitoring the boards for those who have been able to reverse medical conditions with this (besides my husband). It is such an inspiration to others who have struggled with the diets their doctors have suggested. I just think this is a much easier and healthier plan.

Well I started back on my cholesterol meds, they have now found that increasing the dose of Pravacol does not help so I am back on 20mg.  The heart palpatations have started back and I have made a Dr appt to talk about my Thyroid etc.  Heartburn has also returned.  Bottom line I need to exercise and continue LDL.  I know this will do it but at this point must take meds till everything comes together.  Snow and cold here so everyone at work home etc is kind of crabby.  :'(  Only a few more weeks till Spring so looking forward to that.

If your cholesterol med is a statin drug, make sure you are taking COQ10, or better yet, COQH -- ubiquinol, the reduced form of COQ10.  Doctors often forget to tell their patients that they need it when taking statin drugs.  After age 25 the body doesn't break down COQ10 in its usable form as easily, so you get more out of the ubiquinol.  I have only found it online, though.  I get it from vitacost.com.  I don't take any statin drugs and take COQH for other benefits, though -- after giving it to my mom and seeing her dementia helped by it for a time.  From what I've read, the statin drugs are the worst things and are prescribed so quickly by doctors.  My husband's heart doctor prescribed one for him, even though his cholesterol wasn't quite in the high range.  We got on LDL and he lost weight and got off that drug.   Do your best to live a healthy lifestyle and see if you can get off this.  Check with your doctor, of course, but it could save you lots of future misery.  I look at my mom and see her muscle weakness, which is a side effect of statin drugs, and wish I'd have know about all this to help her get off that drug sooner.

I think I have seen Ubiquinol at Wal-Mart recently. It may be called UcoQ or something like that.
Not sure about the quality but it might be better than nothing until you can get a higher quality Ubiquinol ordered.

Guess what, went to the Dr last PM and he recommended I start taking COEnzyme Q10 200mg daily..Thought it would really help me because of the effect of the statin I take.  Going to get some today.  What a great informed group of people are on this site. Crickadoodle you rock.  Eating Meatloaf and butter beans for lunch.  Such a cold day here and the warm lunch really tastes good.  Have a great rest of the day.

What beautiful weather we are having now in Mo. Walking weather, it sure helps everyone's attitudes. Have been eating alot of salads with oil/vinegar/salt/pepper.  They taste so good.  Might make a pumpkin smoothie tonight. Have a great evening everyone.  What are your favorite salads?

My all-time favorite was the Martha's Vineyard salad from Arby's. They don't have it anymore and it really is not LDL friendly.
So now I love any tossed salad with an assortment of rinsed & drained beans on top with Low Fat Italian drsg.

My favorite lettuce salad consists of mixed greens, red onion slivers, grape tomatoes, sprinkling of crumbeled blue cheese, and Newman's Own Low Fat Sesame Ginger dressing.

My favorite bean salad is Danita'a Three Bean Salad Delight with my own homemade dressing -- http://boards.letsdolunch.com/boards/in ... pic=7085.0

I have updated my recipe to read: To prepare dressing, whisk together 1/4 cup white vinegar, 2/3 cup canola oil, 2 tablespoons water, 1 tablespoon Worcestshire sauce, 1/4 teaspoon tabasco sauce, 1/2 teaspoon white pepper, and 2 tablespoons of the dry mixture.

I use about 1/2 of the dressing to coat the bean salad and have enough for another batch or to use on a lettuce salad.

VickiLynn - thanks for posting your dressing recipe update.  I've been looking for a good salad dressing recipe.  I'll give it a try today.  I made a recipe recently that was LDL-friendly that tasted a lot like Hendrickson's salad dressing (not LDL friendly as it is loaded with sugar).  I looked all over for that recipe yesterday, as I wanted to make it and I cannot figure out what recipe it was...frustrating, because I really liked it.  Jerrie :)

Jerrie,
When I come across a recipe I may want to try, I copy and paste it to a Word document. I created a folder called Let's Do Lunch Recipes on my desktop and save my favorites to that folder. You can also bokmark it. Bookmarking saves the whole thread so you may have to scroll to find it. but at laest you know you booked marked it for a reason and it is sometimes good to go back and re-read. Saving just the recipe to a document makes it much easier to find. When you start getting too many, you can create sub-folders. Hope you find the dressing recipe you are looking for soon.

Thanks LindaRN for the tips.  I just started using the bookmarks last week and it does really come in handy.  And I do copy recipes into word documents, but I haven't yet put them into an LDL folder, I just name them all "LDL-whatever the recipe name is", so as to keep them all clumped together, but I will have the put them into a separate folder, like you suggested, as there are getting to be quite a number of them.  That was the first place I looked for the recipe, but couldn't find it there.  I don't know if I forgot to record it or what.  I'm hoping I will run across it somewhere.  Thanks again.  Jerrie

When do you find time to exercise when working a full time job.  I am trying to figure out if joining the gym in town 10 miles from me would be a good thing.  In the evenings I am just tired.  They open at 6am and showers are available to use.  I think even 1/2 hr of something before I go to work should help.  What do you think?

We used to go to the YMCA to swim in the evening.
Now that we are empty nesters, we don't go anymore.
It was fun but did not loose weight because we had not heard of LDL
DH exercises by walking 2 five gallon buckets of water to the farm animals.
Me? I exercise my fingers on the keyboard, occasional walking, and a few times on the trampoline.

Hi Barb
I am in the same boat as you. Have tried it all and this is the only way of loosing weight that works longterm. Was down to my goal weight and gained it all back- with interest added
I find that the second week is a little dicey! Just have to be strong and go on the message board if you need encouragement and new eating ideas.Keep it up barb.

Giesela,
You have found out what others find so hard to grasp......you just can't loose all the weight you want and go back eating the same foods that put it all on and expect to stay skinny.
When I see folks desperate enough to do gastric surgery and HCG diets, I know they are only interested in their looks and not what got them there. Now that you know, you will now be able to do this for life.
As Crickadoodle says, "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels."
