Re: New Let's Do Lunchers
In our area, we have success stories, and then other stories from the surgeries and lap bands.. Unless the eating problem is dealt with, long term success will not be. Praying for you, Michele.

Re: New Let's Do Lunchers
One of the girls I work with had a gastric bypass a few years ago. She used to weigh 300, and probably weighs about 130 now, and she does look good. She also eats well and exercises, but she has a lot of health problems from it, but exactly what they are I don't know, as she is very secretive about it. In fact she is going to a specialist again next week.
I found it quite interesting that when she took the online test that I posted last week, that in spite of all her diet and exercise, she was not "younger" than her actual age.

That is very telling, isn't it. Health is so much more than how we look in the mirror. Pam

How true this is! I think one of the problems people have who have had the surgery is the amount of food they can eat.. around a cupful per meal I think... and I think some since they still crave junk food eat this (not all of course) therefore they do not get all the required nutrients their bodies need..If their minds are not completely made up this is a way of life..they will have many problems along the road following this surgery..

Re: New Let's Do Lunchers
I know several people who have had the surgery both had major complications and one made it through surgery and then died from a DVT horrible situation. For me surgery is not the answer. As with any addiction and over eating is an addiction it is both mental and physical. You have to change both for long term success. Just my two cents! lol

Re: New Let's Do Lunchers
Besides the physical danger of having bypass surgery, it's almost certain that there will be a regain of weight for the majority of people. Everyone I know who has had the surgery has ended up almost as heavy as before, except for one person. And I haven't seen her in 2 years. Plus, many people start eating too much and make themselves sick. New habits are not formed with bypass surgery, as with programs like LDL. Then there's the diarrhea.........

Re: New Let's Do Lunchers
chelebellehawaii~ i know of several people who have had weight loss surgery and have gained either some or all of their weight back because they don't change their eating habits. it's sad, really, you would think if they go to that extreme that they would want to do all they can to make the change permanent....
i would rather change my lifestyle and lose the weight slowly but surely and then KEEP IT OFF!!!
have a blessed day!!!

Re: New Let's Do Lunchers
I think any weight loss program has to start in the head and heart at the same time. I had come to the end of my rope, before the Lord gave me LDL, the food solution. My golden years are going to be better years because I can move better than I did when I was 50, and I have more energy. Many of my friends had the surgery, and they too, have regained. Some are still smaller than they were, while some are larger. The lap band is much safer, I think.

Re: New Let's Do Lunchers
All I can say is that I wouldn't have it done. My step father's first wife died the next day from hyponatremic shock. He even had me go over the medical records to try to prove that the doctors were responsible so that he could sue. I told him that he didn't have a case. That's one of the possible outcomes.

It means that the sodium dropped below normal and she went into shock.
