Finally a good use for white flour!
Not a medical endorsement, but thought this was interesting.
Passing it on.......
Once I was cooking some corn and stuck my fork in the boiling water to see if the corn was ready. I missed and my hand went into the boiling water....
A friend of mine, who was a Vietnam vet, came into the house, just as I was screaming, and asked me if I had some plain old flour...I pulled out a bag and he stuck my hand in it. He said to keep my hand in the flour for 10 minutes which I did. He said that in Vietnam, this guy was on fire and in their panic, they threw a bag of flour all over him to put the fire out...well, it not only put the fire out, but he never even had a blister!!!!
SOOOO, long story short, I put my hand in the bag of flour for 10 minutes pulled it out and had not even a red mark or a blister and absolutely NO PAIN. Now, I keep a bag of flour in the fridge and every time I burn myself I use the flour and never ONCE have I ever had a red spot, a burn or a blister!
*Cold flour feels even better than room temperature flour.
Miracle, if you ask me. Keep a bag of white flour in your fridge and you will be happy you did. I even burnt my tongue and put the flour on it for about 10 minutes and the pain was gone and no burn.
Try it! BTW, don't run your burn area under cold water first, just put it right into the flour for 10 minutes and experience a miracle!

Re: Finally a good use for white flour!
Linda - that flour thing almost sounds too good to be true, but I wish I had that post a week ago. I have a big burn on my hand that I have had for about the last five days or so. I love my Pampered Chef baking stones, but they are the old ones from years ago (the ones with the wire handle mechanism that fit under them) and when I go to take them out of the oven when they are hot, to turn things over, when put them back in the oven, I invaribly burn myself on the oven shelf above where I put them because of trying to put that silly wire piece that goes under the baking stone back in the oven. (They are so bulky.) That would have been a perfect opportunity to try the flour solution. As you might know, they now have baking stones that have the stone handles built right into them (instead of those silly wire attachments). I haven't wanted to replace them, because they are kinda costly, but I've burned myself so many times due to that, that I told my husband that I think I am going to get some of the new ones. But between now an the time I get my new ones, I will probably get burned on my hands or wrists when using my baking stones, so I will be sure to give that flour thing a try. Thanks for posting. Jerrie

Re: Finally a good use for white flour!
Thanks sweetrose for checking that out.
I am so gullable!
After reading snopes though, I am not sure that the heat would not transfer to the cold flour.
I really do not believe it would hold the heat in like ointments or butter does.
I have done the cold water and although it works you have to keep it submerged alot longer than 5 min.
Seems keeping the air off it really helps the pain.
Covering the burn with gauze empregnated with Silvadine cream is what has always worked for me (after the cold water treatment0.
I was thinking the cold flour would help keep the air off it maybe even better than water.
If you are thinking of trying it, only on a very minor burn. And if the pain does not subside quickly, abort the procedure and go with ice water.
Be sure to post the result!!!! I don't plan on being burned anytime soon!
Anyway, not a medical endorsement.....just thought it was funny. White, processed, refined, four with a better use than human consumption!

Re: Finally a good use for white flour!
Hi Linda, Another use for white flour is diaper rash.....First you have to burn the flour in a frying pan....It'll be black and it does have an ordor. I used it when we had the cloth diapers. Nothing seemed to work on my poor little baby...the little bottom was horrible...but that really worked for us. jj
And I'm going to try to start again today. Been looking at the boards and looks like a lot of friends have left...sure enjoyed Clown Lady and Snoopy

LINDA RN,
After you cool down the burn with water for five minutes, plain yellow mustard is to be applied for minor burns. It takes the pain away that you feel when the air hits it and reduces the swelling. If you chose to put a bandage over it, then aloe should be used to promote healing and less scarring. Ointments are not as effective.
jjelli,
Cornstarch works wonders for diaper rash.

Re: Finally a good use for white flour!
Cornstarch will feed a yeast diaper rash, so I quit using it, since when my kids got a diaper rash, it was usually yeast.
Never heard of probiotics when my kids were babies.

Re: Finally a good use for white flour!
Hi Pam, Thank you for the encouragement....however the sad news is that I put all the weight back on..just had such a down time....
The burnt flour was the last resort....nothing fazed the d rash, even the corn strarch..
My mom isn't doing very well. She's in swing bed at the nursing home. She has gotten very weak and a little confused. They are doing PT.
we tried bladder control pills.....and I think thats where it all started....they can cause weakness and confusion.....it sure did a number on her.
Later jj

Re: Finally a good use for white flour!
Thank you soooo much Ms. Heirloom, Your caring means a lot. I think I'm getting a little better. I didn't realize how close I really am to my mother until I had to leave her at the nursing home....The care is pretty good there....not like at home thou...but also I was waiting on her hand and foot 24/7. for the last 4 years. I'm not complaining but it was time not only for her health but for mine also. Now with it being spring (cold, wind and rain), I can have other things to focus on. jj
