healthy for children??

Post by TNangela »

I am new to the LDL after my parents have been successful with the program. Both my husband and I are doing it. We have 7 children, all are healthy and average sizes except a 10 year daughter. She now weighs 157 lbs. which is more than I weigh. She has high blood pressure and cholesterol problems. It has been difficult dealing with her health issues for 3 years now, as doctors say she needs to lose weight, but never give us a program and information on how to accomplish this. I am certain I can use some of the information, such as butter substitutes , more fruit, and cutting her potatoes and breads out. How much is safe for her? I am unable to get her into a nutrition program until she has heart damage. I am not willing to wait that long. Roger Troy do you have any
suggestions??? Are there other children doing this program??Most doctors assume we eat out and eat junk food...that's really not the case. Thanks

THanks Roger Troy for the advice I will take the book to the doctor, I am certain that its safe...I guess what I was concerned about was the protein amount for her. She really enjoyed the Neets meatloaf....she just asked for the mashed potatoes!!I believe once the beans and corn kick her addiction she will be ok!! Another problem is school lunches, I just advised her to make wiser choices as we can not pack the meat and vegetables ourselves. Thanks again and God Bless you. ANG

HI tNangela,
I to have a daughter who struggles with her weight. You are right when you say the doctors believe they eat junk food all day. My daughters diet is loaded with fruits and vegs and her skinny friends eat loads of junk. Something that has helped her slim down is taking her lunch everyday to school. I always put a large fruit, 2 vegs ( grape tomatoes, carrots, salad or vegs soup), half of a whole grain sandwich with 4 to 5 oz of protien on it and only water to drink. It may not seem like much, but by reducing her lunch calories by 100 or 200 a day it may help.
good luck,
nan

Thanks Nan for the idea...we have tried bringing our lunch.....to be honest cutting calories, exercising and never drinking anything but water has not helped. This summer was the first summer she maintained her weight...but now we seem to be gaining again. They have checked her thyroid etc...I still feel as if there is more the doctors are missing. The past three years have been frustrating to say the least. I even had one doctor tell her at age 8 really negatinve remarks and to lose 37 lbs in 6 months or dont come back....he said join weight watchers...the doctor called back in 6 months to confirm her appointment I replied that if I wanted her to be made fun of I would ask her peers on the playground to criticize her for free. I feel hopeful that LDL will help her. Thanks again Nan!!

Hey Mary,
Thanks for your advice and concern regarding my daughter.....yesterday at lunch she threw away the top bun on her sloppy joe sandwich!!!!One of her peers told her it was child abuse for me to not want her to eat the bread...hehee kids!! I have prayed for such a long time for the knowledge or a program to help her. It is very difficult for little ones to count calories, fat grams, etc..Her father and I are divorced so there are times she is not with me that I can not control what she eats...this program is teaching her how to simply make those choices.....her goal is to wear an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini!! I am not sure about that though :D Thanks again and keep Hannah in your prayers...10 is such a young age for health issues.
Thanks, ANG
