Re: I Need Prayers Too
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! God has been holding me close!
'Reo's surgery was scheduled for this morning. But scheduling complications moved it to late afternoon.
The surgeon let me know on Monday that he has only 'done' 3 elbows and that he'd rather I take 'Reo to an expert in Dallas. I nixed that idea, not possible with my schedule. I told him that if he could not do it then we'd have to go back to our regular vet and amputate, even though we'd already ruled that out. (again)
He said, in that case he'd do it, but he just wanted me to know he was not an expert. 'Reo might never again have a normal range of motion of that joint.
Today he (finally) called me about 5pm to let me know that the surgery went GREAT!!! He felt very confident that the elbow would have full-range of motion. He said that he felt REALLY GOOD about the job.
I'll pick my boy up tomorrow after work and after 4 days I'll begin doing rehab exercises on his bum leg, to keep his muscles limber while the bone heals. And he'll have to stay crated for at least six weeks to minimize the possibility of re-breaking the bone.
Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts this week!

Dear Enjae,
I smiled as I read how you put the surgeon on the spot. I'm certain you were more confident in his skills than he was. But, he didn't know you had the whole country praying for him. That is beautiful.
Good luck with the homecoming!

Welcome home to you and Reo. Get your rest. The healing time ahead may or may not require a lot of your energy. I pray it continues to go well.

Re: I Need Prayers Too
We are mostly ok. He hasn't whined about being stuck in a crate as much as I expected him to. He and I both slept all afternoon.
I'm a little worried because he seems to be running a fever. I do not know if that is a normal physical response to surgery or if it means he has an infection... I call the vet tomorrow and ask.
Right now he's asleep and has a buddy. Bo, sleeping right in front of the crate door.
I'm exhausted.

Re: I Need Prayers Too
Enjae - I never got to this yesterday - don't know why, as I thought I had read all the posts... sheez! I'm glad that Reo is home and not complaining. I know that sometimes humans get a fever after surgery, so maybe other animals do too... but I suppose you've already talked to the vet.
I'll be watching to see your reports on his progress... Hugs, girl...
Love,
Carolyn

Re: I Need Prayers Too
I spent the weekend dog-sitting for a friend so 'Reo went to my foster-dad's for the weekend. I got him back about 8pm tonight. He has not seemed uncomfortable. He is sleeping right now.
My heart is weary though. About 9:30pm I learned that another uncle is dying. His liver is covered with cancer and his lungs keep filling with fluid.
(I mentioned in a previous thread that my oldest uncle died in June.)

Re: I Need Prayers Too
Sweet 'Reo has been so patient this past couple of weeks. He has never been able to stand being left alone, or being trapped; and this whole time he has patiently accepted life in a crate.
Please continue praying for his recovery of full use of his leg.
On my part, I am SO emotionally exhausted. It seems as though there has been one trouble after another. I still need your prayers.
Thanks;
NJ

Thanks for the update. I've been worried about you and sorry to hear your are going through diffecult times.
"It Always Rains Before The Rainbow". Trust that something good will happen and soon this will all be behind you. 'Reo is likely loving the extra attention. I can see it now - once he is all healed, he will fake a limp just for the extra hugs. Don't be surprised if he forgets which side was hurt and the limp comes from the other leg. You gotta love 'em.

Thank you Carla; you made me laugh. I can see 'Reo doing that, too.
Everyone's prayers are fruitful; I have been better today.
Thank you all.

Re: I Need Prayers Too
Our pets prove just how SMART they are! People need to stop and watch them. My cat knows how to get food into his dish in the morning...he jumps on the bed and wakes up MOM to feed him.
When we've been away, or when I come home from work, he runs to the dining room floor and lays on his side...so I will stroke him. When I have something to eat, he pulls on my arm to be able to smell what I am eating...he won't eat it...but he just wans to smell it. When I am making my breakfast and lunch, he is behind me on the kitchen floor. If I drop something, he smells it...but won't eat it. So, if I don't know where it landed, he will show me.
My quaker parrot who died a couple of years ago, would throw all his toys on the floor. As you would pick them up and put them back on top of his cage, he would say, "Thank-you". Then he would ask me, "What are you doing?". I would tell him, "I'm working. What are you doing?". His reply, "I'm working!". SOmetimes he was too.....he was throwing his toys back on the floor so they would be ready for pick up again!
He loved cooked oatmeal. He would eat it from a spoon. He DEMANDED his share when I would fix it. (We lost him prior to the cat and LDL so no problem with that.)
My yellow Tweety bird (who stays with Mom - they are great buddies for each other) doesn't like me anymore. I have the job of catching him when he won't let her catch him. He is afraid I will "REMEMBER" he is there and take him home, so he gets quiet when he hears my voice. They say "DUMB" animals? I beg to differ with them.
The cat knows when it is about time for me to come home and usually comes to find Jim if he is in the front room by the picture window. Jim says some days he jumps up in his lap and other days he just watches the kitchen door where I enter.
When Tweety was at our house, he would start chirping about 3 minutes before I came into the driveway. I never made it quite at the same time, but Jim said he could tell from Tweet's chirps that I was getting close.
Just my contribution to the thread.
