Hi everyone,
I have been lurking and reading...since the First magazine article....I started last week, found a book last Friday.....love everything about this and I am veteran dieter.
I had gastic bypass in Aug. 2007 and have lost 125lbs. gone from a 3x to a 16, but......have been stuck since November 08 at 205, 201, 207.....could not get into the wonderful onehundred's club......
with LDL I am at 198lbs., the first time in 23 years....YEAH!!! LDL broke my long plateau, thanks so much.
Another first...my husband is doing this with me because he loves the foods and they are not "diet" foods.
I do have a question....not sure if anyone can answer....because of the bypass, and the small amounts that I can physically eat, I wonder if protein once a day is enough for me? We are suppose to eat "protein first at every meal" and then veggies and fruit or anything else. I know I was eating the wrong foods (carbs, fried foods, sweets) when I was not losing.....but not anymore.
Thanks to all who post,
pbell

I am so happy for you. I had seriously considered WLS but thought I didn't need to add malnutrition to my health problems. Thank God LDL finally found me. Keep up the great work. Pam

I honestly think that is a question for doctor since only he/she probably knows your limits and needs after the surgery. I have a few friends that have had the surgery but they are still in the first stages of recovery etc. Wish I could help more but I am sure his/her input would be the best just in case

PBell,
That is fabulous news!! I LOVE to hear when milestones are broken! I would keep a food diary with extra amounts of your proteins and then consult your Doc to make sure it is enough.
Keep up the good work!

Welcome PBell,
So happy to have you as a part of the community!
Thanks so much for sharing your story. You have come such a long, long way. What you have been able to accomplish is truly amazing!

No more lurking, please! I am Sicilian and lurking makes me nervous! Come into the Sun and join us for support, inspiration, kindness, knowledge and
And, BTW, that goes both ways.
Breaking the 200 mark is a cause for a great celebration! And now that you are in a new size - maybe a new outfit is in order; one that perhaps is a color you would not wear before but will revel in now.
I hope you can find something really chic - and if you do, please let me know where you went. It seems to me that most designers of large size clothing think we are all on our way to a luau or a love in. Seriously, what's with all the large floral prints and looooonnng flounced skirts. Anyway, I digress.
Having a supportive husband will make it easier for you to continue and kudos to him - some men are not as willing. Congratulations! And I hope to join you in hitting that milestone in the near future.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Julie

Re: New to LDL..broken...a loooong plateau
Hi, PBell!!! I, too, had gastric bypass but in June, 2007. Next Friday I will be 2 years out and I feel great. I stalled at 190 after coming down from 275, have gradually started back up, now over 200 again at 205. I havn't weighed. I officially started will be 2 weeks on Monday. Anyway I am so glad to have found LDL. I started out having a protein shake made w/ soymilk in the middle of the day because I was concerned about the protein. But after learning more and reading labels, I think with the heavy protein (mostly ground meat )
at lunch and adding beans to almost everything, including smoothies as of today, I think, we have sufficient protein. The beans provide a lot of usable protein. I do drink a soymilk in the morning because that gives me 8gm to start w/ along with my banana and smoothie.
I have found that I have not been sick once since I started this and even this far out, things like steak, fatty things, even chicken sometimes makes me sick. I still hate that part!
But I am very strict with my vitamins. I think (personal opinion) this is the best thing that has happened to me since WLS. I can't go back to what ifs but I am just so glad to be here now.
Welcome!!! especially from another WLSer and new LDLer!!!
Many congratulations on the plateau break! I feel the same way. I started this with the intention of helping my daughter because I could have been satisfied having come down from size 26 to 16. I can go in Wal-mart to the regular sizes now, albeit XL, but it is so much better than 3X!!! I have totally bought into this way of eating. It has helped my hunger which unfortunately has returned and my sugar addiction which I never had problem eating even after WLS...no dumping. Of course, I would be in the 20% that happens to!!!
Its very nice to talk to someone who relates. Welcome to the light, quit lurking! I too lurked in the beginning but was drawn in by the light and love!!

Re: New to LDL..broken...a loooong plateau
Congratulations PBell. I was contemplating WLS as well but my husband was not supportive of surgery. He and I are both very happy that I've found LDL and I'm convinced this is the lifestyle plan for me for the rest of my life. I've got 100#'s to lose and look forward to getting below 200 - my first major goal. God Bless you, Lynda
