Wow!!! I am simply amazed at the LDL program!!! My husband, Brandon and I, love the recipes so far. And we already feel so much better. We don't even have the book yet (thanks, Roger, for your generosity) but have been following the program the best we can with what we've been reading on the boards. Brandon just said, lastnight, "It's amazing how quickly you feel better when you eat the right foods." How true that is. My clothes already feel loose and I've lost 2 pounds. Cravings are getting less. I am eating Little Mary's chicken and corn chowder right now! It is delicious. Sure doesn't seem like something we can eat and still lose weight. It's wonderful.
I do have some questions. Mainly , what times should we strive to eat? What time should we eat our biggest protein meal? Also, after working out lastnight, I wanted a bowl of pinto beans. It was about 8:30pm so I wasn't sure if I should have beans. Instead, I had popcorn with just a little butter and salt.
I do have other questions. I am sure Roger answers all of them in his book so I will wait.
Hi Tamra, In the words of The Great Bean Queen Niki, Beans are ALWAYS ok the more the better. your biggest meal should be lunch, G-d bless and welcome kris
If thou shalt confess with your mouth the L-rd Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that G-d hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Roman's 10:9-10
You are off to a great start, Tamra & Brandon. It's sooo wonderful to start feeling better right away after suffering and being uncomfortable for so long.
You are supposed to eat all you want of all the good LDL foods, whenever you are hungry. Eating a little bit of carbs (peas, beans, corn, popcorn) and/or protein before & after your workout is a good way to keep from crashing & eating everything that doesn't eat you first ! ha ha
Beans are a great choice after working out. You just don't want to get in the habit of going to bed with a really full stomach. Watch out for hidden sugars and lard in canned beans. Canned ones are also bad about causing gas, because, even though they are a good, pure food, they are processed. Cooking them at home from the dried state causes much less gas and is SO inexpensive.
Our Bean Queen, Niki's cooking method to eliminate the most possible sulfur compounds: Wash, soak overnight in a non-metallic container. Next morning, drain & cover with fresh water in your bean cooking pot, bring to a boil. Drain, pour into slow cooker & cover with fresh water, and cook all day, or on stovetop until tender. Do not add any salt or acidic seasoning before beans get tender, but a few big spoonsful of Mrs. Dash (any flavor), bay leaves, peppercorns, herbs are okay. Season to taste after all beans are tender & simmer a few more minutes to blend in seasonings.
I'm always too hungry, too tired, and too impatient to go to all that effort. So I wash & throw mine in the pressure cooker with ALL the seasonings for 20-25 minutes. This is when I plan to be alone for a couple of days. In deference to our esteemed Bean Queen's edict, yesterday I tried a new pressuring method that I like: Wash beans & pressure in plain fresh water for 5 minutes (takes the place of soaking). Drain, return to pot with fresh water & all seasonings, stir well and pressure for 10-15 more minutes.
I caved & tried this yesterday with a pound of beans I wanted to add to my Texas Hold-'Em Burn-Your-Face-Off Beef & Bean Chili because I didn't want to be ostracized to the other end of the house.
Ask all the questions you want, Tamra. We're all here to help each other succeed.
Thanks so much, Gwen (and Queen Bean), for all of the info about beans. I love making pinto beans from scratch but I wasn't sure about all of the other beans that are in so many recipes. So, I bought several canned beans but was a little concerned about the sodium content. I've been rinsing them but I imagine they still have lots of salt soaked in. When I am out of the canned beans, I think I will start buying dried. They are SO much more inexpensive. However, I haven't found all the beans I'm looking form in dried form. I'll keep looking as they are cheaper and will stretch a little further. :0)
I really appreciate everyone's desire to help and give such great advice and encouragment. Like so many, Brandon and I have tried SEVERAL diets. Nothing has worked long term. We are so confident LDL will work. It is a way of life, not a diet. The recipes I have found here all sound so yummy. We really liked the Chicken and Corn Chowder. And I have several more that we will be trying in the next few weeks.

my favorite beans are small red beans, cannelini beans and chick peas......black beans used to be on that list, but i like the small red beans so much better........... don't worry about the na content of the canned beans....when i make greek bean soup with canned beans, i just don't add salt and the taste is perfect..............
life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning to dance in the rain..
Hi Tamra......I'm a "spend as little time in the kitchen as possible" type of cook and I use the canned beans all the time. My husband laughs at the number of cans of beans I bring home from the grocery store. I've continually lost weight eating them....just wanted to let you know in case you prefer convenience! Glad you and Brandon are here - God bless you on this wonderful journey!
It's been awhile since I've posted but my husband and I are still loving LDL! I've lost 11 pounds and Brandon has lost 15 pounds!!! WOO-HOO!!! We started on May 17th. We couldn't be happier; especially Brandon because of the health issues that he had! He feels so much better and can't wait to see the doctor! How often can we say that? ;0)
Love you all and love LDL! Thank you Roger! I know your story is a great blessing to all who hear it!
Tamra and Brandon, That is awesome! Look at you guys go!! Amazing how fast that can happen. Keep up the good work. Isn't amazing losing weight and not being hungry? All the other Plans work, if you stick to them, but you are always starving! All I used to think about was food when I am on the other plans. I used to always say to myself, " I can't wait to eat *** as soon as I get to my goal!" That is the wrong mindset. On LDL, I just think of the next wonderful thing to cook!!! That is great that you are feeling better. That is why we are all here!! Terri
Tamra, let me add my two cents worth, LDL is the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!! Aren't we glad we found it? I can't say enough about it. Congrats on your weight loss.
Dear Tamra and Brandon, WOOHOO FOR YOU!!! This is an exiting way of life...isn't it?! I agree with whomever said, they think about the next great meal they can prepare. it is fun cooking this way...knowing it is healthy, delicious, and will cause weight loss... Yeah for LDL!!! Keep up the good work... Love and prayers, Annamaria
