I agree.  I joined on Facebook as a fan, and I definitely appreciate Facebook as a way to get out the word, however, this is my format for seeking and giving support.  This is the heart of LDL.. Facebook is a way to get people over here!

I am so glad I am not left alone.LOL  I did go over to facebook and the food pictures look fabulous but I am not much of a facebooker so will just be looking from time to time.
With Mike gone it is lonesome here so it is great to be able to read what my LDL family is doing and see how everyone is sliding down the scales.
I went yesterday to Missoula and I walked around WalMart and bought groceries.  This is so amazing to me since it has been a long time since I was able to do that.  I actually walked around WalMart the other day a bit also but this was the fist time by myself.  My husband has done all the grocery shopping for a few years.  The only time I was able to shop is when we went to Wal Mart and I could ride a cart.   It isn't that I have lost so much weight but this way of eating has caused my aching bones and muscles to quit hurting and is allowing me to do more. I even came home from shopping and was able to clean my kitchen and vacuum my livingroom and dining room.  I haven't vacuumed in years because of my back.  Being on LDL is like walking daily in miracles!

B:  Refried Beans, 3 eggs and 2 slices cheese
    2 bananas
L:  Pizza Soup
    Left over chicken stirfry
D:  Watermelon, orange, grapefruit smoothie
    2 Fresh Mandarin Oranges
    apple
    popcorn

i wish I could convince my mother in law to go on this woe she also has ms and has been real bad for quite awhile.  She has a bag of candy by her chair that she eats all the time and lives on sandwiches and tv dinners.  I really think healthy eating would keep her from maybe transgressing so quickly.

When I made the stir fry yesterday I wanted some kind of sauce over it so decided to try chicken broth.  It was so good I am going to put the recipe here for anyone that wants to try it.  I am not a big veggie eater so I eat alot of what I do like.

Grind up cooked chicken breast in food processor and set aside.  Add chicken towards the end of veggies cooking.

Cut into pieces:
Onion
Celery
Cabbage strips
mushrooms
Garlic
Water chestnuts
Cook veggies until done but still crunchy

In a sauce pan put 1 can chicken broth with crystalized ginger.  Bring to a boil and add 1/2 tsp Mustard Powder and 1 tsp chicken bouillon powder. Stir until they dissolve in to broth.  Then add 1 tsp Corn Starch to thicken until consistency of gravy.  Pour over Stir Fry and enjoy.

I made enough for 2 days worth.  I heated the left overs in the fry pan just until hot and it was just as good the second day and the water chestnuts made it nice and crunchy.

Image  Hi Wendy, thank you for posting what LDL has done for you. Many, many times I have heard medical profesionals blow people off about their pain because they are overweight. They have forgotton how wonderfully and marvelously we are made. When one thing goes wrong, it causes a domino effect and one pat answer doesn't solve it. I have noticed when I am eating more sweets my joints hurt so bad I was nearly in tears. I was taking every natural supplement I could get, then decided it was the supplements and quit them and over the course of a year, the pain finally quit. Then, earlier this summer, I got in a sweet craving mode again and the pain in my shoulder and wrist came back. It was after that, that DH was suddenly inspired to start cooking beans himself. We made a concerted effort to eat more whole foods, quit the sweets, and that is how I lost the 22 lbs. I think I was already at a plateau when I started LDL so I have not been posting more loss. But I am loosing inches even when not staying with the plan 100% It is great to feel well and not be in so much pain.

Regarding Facebook:
Each website has it's +'s and -'s.
Plus's:
Facebook is easier to post to especially pictures.
Facebook is easier to navigate for a beginner or window shopper.
Facebook is easier to link to other organizations who are also on facebook to help get the word out.
Facebook is free

LDL site is more private, no ads blinking at you and no nastiness from other hackers.
LDL allows emoticons and longer messages than Facebook.
LDL organizes messages better for future reference.

Minus's
Facebook has the potential to be abused. On your personal FB you have the option to post to only your friends. If we want to spread the word about LDL, then we need to post things everyone can read. I think as an administrator either RT or myself can delete messages and block posters if they get out of hand. Trouble is there may be some time pass when messages are posted before they can be deleted.
Facebook has a discussions tab. I will have to look into it to see how the discussions can be organized. Until then, posts to the “wall” have to be short and sweet.
In Facebook if you miss a few days, it could take a while to scroll through messages, or you have a bunch of emails to read if you want messages sent there also.
No way (that I have found) to use the ticker, but I plan to look into it.
When messages get to long no more typing shows. When you are in the middle of a sentence, you have to stop and figure out what to cut in order to get the whole thought down.
Typos in FB cannot be edited once posted. Whole message has to be deleted.
LDL may be expensive to maintain and upgrade. Changing the look of the site is not easily done.
LDL message boards are not as easy to post to. When message gets too long, it is hidden below the window and it does that jumpy thing.
Pictures in LDL used for Avitar are skewed or blurred and very difficult for a beginner to post themselves.

That being said, here is my take: Use Facebook as the big storefront window to get the best out there for those who have never heard of us. If we get their interest, show them around then invite them inside to the LDL site where the day to day assistance, support, and cheering goes on! Newbies looking on facebook need to know this will work for them, so those who have had great success still need to answer their posts when someone says they are in the same boat you are/were.

I was up most of the night working on the website and I have been cat-napping trying to get this message written. Now 3 other people have already posted....time to make another pot of coffee and get busy. Can sleep tonight...need to work while the sun shines....or something like that.

Thank you Pam,  Mike is there visitiing now so I will have him talk to her about it.
Linda RN
I got on and looked at the site last night and left a message so it would come over into my Facebook for my other friends and guests to see.  I will go there and watch the process.  I liked the idea of putting food pictures on to see the size of portions plus how appetizing they looked.  I am sure this will get alot of interest from people that felt hopeless like I did about diets.
Don't work too hard and get tired out you have done a great job on it.

This has been such a busy day getting thing done before I head for Missoula to pick up Mike.  Thank God he is coming home from his visit today, it seems he has been gone forever.  My son, his friend and I went to town this afternoon to eat and shop.  They decided to eat at Famous Daves so it was hard to find what I could eat.  I didn't do great but not so bad either.  The boys wanted to order a plate that feed 3 because it was cheaper and has lots of food.

B:  Watermelon, orange, grapefruit smoothie
    Bag of Popcorn
    2 bananas
L:  Pizza Soup
D:  2 small ribs, pulled pork the size of a tablespoon, 1 slice brisket, 1 chicken leg, 6 steak fries, 2 corn on the cob

Hi Wendy,

Your recipe for stir-fry looks really good and I am going to try it.  I am not familiar with crystalized ginger but I will find it!

I checked out FB and I think it is great to use to get the word out about LDL, but I prefer the privacy of the message boards here.  I did enjoy seeing the pictures and reading the posts though.

Merry Christmas!

the crystalized ginger comes in a jar just like ground ginger.  I would think fresh shaved would work just as well.

Well I am up and running trying to get things done so I can go into Missoula again today.  Thank God I finally got my appointment with the knee doctor to see what to do next with my knee.  I had scopic surgery last spring with a doctor in my town but when he started the surgery he realized it was worse then he thought so did what he could.  It actually made it worse and has been terribly painful all these months.  I am going today for a second opinion on having knee replacement.  We decided to eat enough before we leave of LDL food and then having a snack when we get home rather then eat in town.

Thank you for letting me know about the crystalized ginger.  I never thought of looking at my spices to see what is the process of how they are made.  I will have to try the real thing, I have never bought it like that.

I couldn't find the crystalized ginger in a jar, but I found it in a cellophane bag.  I didn't buy it because of the sugar content and instead bought a small piece of ginger root.  It only cost 20 cents!  What a deal!  I plan to try your recipe tomorrow Wendy.  I hope you get some answers for your knee.

I am so glad you bought ginger root instead.  I am sorry I almost mis-lead you in this.  Let me know how you like the stir fry.  I made stir fry for dinner tonight without the sauce and just put the ginger powder in it while cooking and it was good also but better with the sauce over it.

This has been such a busy day.  At lunch I got in the fridge to get my yummy Pizza soup out for lunch and found my husband had taken it for his lunch.  So I made the Blue cheese burgers that were listed yesterday for the day before.  It was yummy and I ate chili with it so made it that much better even.  I have been going through my LDL recipes to decide what to make for Christmas dinner at a friends house.  I decided to make a water chestnut and Strawberry salads and Butternut Garlic soup and Oriental Mandarin 3 Bean salad.  I figure they will go well with Prime Rib and ham and we can mostly eat veggie and salads and little meat.

B:  Refried beans, 3 eggs, 2 slices cheese
L:  Blue cheese burgers with chili
    orange, banana, watermelon smoothie
    Popcorn
D:  Stir Fry
    2 Mandarin Oranges

Mikes Day
B:  shredded wheat cereal w/ skim milk
L:  Pizza soup
    fresh salad
    Mixes berry Smoothie
D:  Stir Fry
    Glass tomato juice
    Avacado
