SM,
It was really ironic that I should just happen to turn on the Food Network channel last night to see that Bobby Flay's Throwdown was to feature the owner of an Italian restaurant in New York. The throwdown challenge? The Feast of the Seven Fishes!! I just wish I could have been one of the judges because this Italian Christmas Eve tradition with all the fish dishes they made had my mouth watering. Enjoy your Feast of the Seven Fishes -- MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Re: SICILIAN MAMA'S JOURNAL
Okay... soo... I've been gone to the beach for a week, over the Christmas Holiday... and I am officially back.
I cooked and cooked and cooked for our trip...
I made Sirloin/Black Bean burgers
Chicken soup with my own salt free stock
2 bean chili (no meat)
Tons of salad fixings
oranges, banana's, dried unsulfured mangoes as a treat while my family ate Smore's by the bonfires,
Salmon Mousse (light, for the family)
We ate like royalty. We had so many people come by and comment about what a lovely spread we had for our lunch, and they always asked how we have room for dinner with such a large lunch... it was so great being able to tell them about how we eat now, and how this WAS are large meal... I just know at least 10 people are going to buy the book now.
I posted pictures on the LDL Facebook page.
The weather was gorgeous as usual... the kids surfed, rodes bikes, Bill and I played Scrabble and took long walks by the shore... It was the perfect way to spend Christmas... we do it every year...
So now... after tonight... I'll be cooking again, making more soups, and stews, and burgers and am going to make some taco salad fixings again...
Todays lunch was our annual New Years Eve Surf and Turf..
TRI tip steak, bbq'd until just pink
Huge Salad, Green beans and lemon, Huge Shrimp on skewers, and Rooibos tea sparklers... my new found wonder tea... Look it up... it's soooooo good for us!!! Even better than Green Tea and no caffiene!!!

Re: SICILIAN MAMA'S JOURNAL
Got really down to business baking bread for my bread sale today... and forgot to eat breakfast... HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?
I hate when I skip breakfast, because I just want to eat everything in sight the rest of the day... but I didn't...
When lunchtime rolled around, I made myself some RAG SOUP... I LOVE THIS SOUP... one of my Aunt's made it for me every time I requested it when I was a child, and It really hit the spot today.
2 quarts chicken stock, fat free and low sodium, or make your own (that's what I do)
2 cups sliced green onions
3 eggs or 6 egg whites (I use whites only, to lower the calories and cholesterol content) beaten
Heat up the stock and onions until just boiling
Pour in the eggs slowly while whisking away... whisk until the eggs cook and you start seeing "rags" in the soup...
Serve piping hot. I didn't think my kids or hubby would like it, so I made a bunch of it, thinking I'd have some for dinner too.. and THEY ATE THE ENTIRE REST OF THE BATCH..lol
I also ate two bean/sirloin burgers... Yum!
We are going tot he Ddrive In tonight... I made the men a bunch of homemade pizza, and I'm taking along a salad and some butternut squash soup for me...
Night all!

Re: SICILIAN MAMA'S JOURNAL
Went to see the Movie "Nine" today with my bestie, and I knew we were going out to dinner afterward, so I saved my protein meal until tonight...
Breakfast was a banana
Lunch was a bowl of my 2 bean chili soup, with some guacamole mixed in
Dinner was at Mimi's Cafe...
I ordered an 8 0z rib eye, medium rare, and instead of the potatoe that came with it, I asked for a double portion of the veggies without butter or seasoning
and I had a salad with dressing on the side, that I dipped my fork into in between bites... no bread, of course, and no dessert... but did have a couple of cups of decaf coffee and some awesome conversation...
Eating this way in restaurant IS SOOO EASY if you just ask the server to make a couple of substitutions!!! They are always willing to oblige!!! Remember to tip bigger when they accomodate you!!!
Tomorrow is Fruit and Soup Flush Monday!!!

Re: SICILIAN MAMA'S JOURNAL
Hi Sicilian,
My daughter bought me a bag of frozen clams at christmas time and aside from making clam chowder I would like to make something a little different. I thought perhaps you might have a yummy Italian recipe? Thanks in advance for your help. Judie

Snowbirdie... yes... clams are wonderful saute'd in a little olive oil and garlic and eaten like that, or plop them into a chili or any of the soups... like the garlic soup... I like to make potatoless corn chowder and add clams on top for a chewy, protein punch...
JJelli... LOL... I get that offer a lot. I'm a caterer and home chef... so cooking is one of my many passions... Fruit and soup day is gonna be yummy!!!

Re: SICILIAN MAMA'S JOURNAL
Had my first ever home made smoothie on LDL today...
It was good.
I may do it again...
So far today, I've had the smoothie made with ice, 2 banana's and 3 small oranges... it made about 2 cups of creamy goodness.. My Cuisinart blender totaly rocked it out.. who knew!!!
I poured in into a large gorgeous wine goblet and sat in the sun and watched my dogs play around...
Lovely... simply lovely...

Re: SICILIAN MAMA'S JOURNAL
I love my smoothies in the morning and sometime at night. My favorite is the Creamy Dreamy Orange smoothie in the recipes. I don't even care that it is below zero in Montana I just add an extra jacket and go for it.
I loved the picture you conjured up sitting in the sun watching your dogs. I can't wait until winter is over and I can sit on my patio and enjoy mine sitting outside enjoying God's beautiful creation.
